Laurent Ferrier will be contributing to the Only Watch auction for the 3rd year in 2015. On November 7th, the auction will take place and the entire sum will be donated to the support of research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy. A terrible disease which results muscle degeneration and premature death, especially (mainly) appearing in male children (age 2 -3). Most patients are wheelchair dependent by age 12 and the average life expectancy of DMD patients is around 25 years. The Only Watch initiative raises money by auctioning timepieces donated by watch brands and as written above, the entire sum will be transferred to support research on DMD.

The approximately 40 watches will travel around before being auctioned in Geneva. They will be up for display in Monaco, Hong Kong, Beijing, New York and London.

Laurent Ferrier Galet Square

Laurent Ferrier Galet Square

For this year’s auction, Laurent Ferrier developed a watch especially for this occasion: an unprecedented version of the Galet Square. The Laurent Ferrier Galet Square is powered by a micro-rotor movement with “échappement naturel” and has a two-tone silvered sector dial that is so typical for the late 1930s.

The Laurent Ferrier Galet Square was introduced during this year’s BaselWorld and has this 41 x 41mm cushion shaped case that reminds us of those 1930s timepieces. For this Only Watch edition of the Laurent Ferrier Galet Square, the lugs have been changed a bit by making them straight and enrich them with gold half spheres.

Laurent Ferrier used the self-winding FBN Calibre 229.01 movement equipped with a unidirectional pawl-fitted micro-rotor. This 72-hour power reserve in-house movement has been developed, produced and assembled in the Laurent Ferrier workshops. FBN Caliber 229.01 has a silicon escapement with double direct impulse on the balance, developed by Laurent Ferrier. This construction requires two escape-wheels and a special designed and developed lever. As a result of this construction, the escapement is highly efficient and guarantees a high amplitude of the balance.
