We already showed you the Omega Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon, or Lunar Dust as it was called at the time of introduction in BaselWorld. However, Omega is now officially introducing it to the public as ‘Grey Side of the Moon’, on Speedy Tuesday.

The Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon didn’t change since we’ve seen it in Basel actually. The platinum dial, the grey ceramic case and of course the awesome looking alligator strap all remained the same.

As we’ve wrote in our initial article on the Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon (or Lunar Dust), the ceramic case actually started out as a white block of ceramic. The white ceramic case was subject to 20,000 degrees of Celsius for three hours in a plasma heating chamber which result in this awesome grey color. The whole case turned grey, so if you’d cut the case into half, it would be all grey inside as well.

The Omega Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon carries reference number 311.93.44.51.99.001 and has the same overall specifications as the Dark Side of the Moon. Both Speedmaster models are variations of the Omega Speedmaster 9300 that we reviewed here and here. A 44.25mm case that is heavily inspired on the original Omega Speedmaster Professional ‘Moonwatch’ case.

Omega now has this Speedmaster Caliber 9300 family in stainless steel, gold, titanium and ceramic (two colors). The Dark Side of the Moon is slightly darker than this Grey Side of the Moon (of course). The photo below shows the difference between these two.

Speedmaster Grey Side of the MoonSince the word on this Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon has been out for a while now, I’d be very interested to see how high the demand will be for this version. It was one of the watches that got a lot of attention during BaselWorld. It took Omega quite a while to be able to deliver the Dark Side of the Moon to their boutiques and retailers to be able to fulfill the demand for it.

The (new) production process of the Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon case might also cause a bit of a careful and slow delivery to boutiques and retailers. Apart from the high demand that this watch might have. Talking to collectors and Speedmaster enthusiasts, people are really looking forward to try this watch and see it in the flesh.

The platinum dial reminds me of the Rolex Yacht-Master dial, which is an amazing dial when it catches sun light (or natural light) but is very grey-ish when the watch is in artificial light. People who found the Dark Side of the Moon a bit too dark however, might really go for the Grey Side of the Moon.

As we wrote before, the list price of the Omega Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon is just 500 Swiss Francs over the Dark Side of the Moon (which currently retails for 8960 Euro incl 21% VAT here in The Netherlands).

The Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon is not pictured on the official website yet, but if it will be added, you will probably going to find it here.
