Baume & Mercier’s new Clifton Baumatic: Protected against magnetic fields
Various objects in our everyday life constantly emit magnetic fields that can potentially influence the accuracy of a mechanical watch. The Clifton Baumatic from Baume & Mercier with the maison’s first in-house mechanical self-winding calibre, the Baumatic BM12-1975A, is offering significantly better protection against magnetic fields, without having to hide the state-of-the art movement in a protective soft iron cage.

The new Baumatic is resistant to at least 1500 Gauss without residual effect. – That’s 25 higher than the current ISO 164 (NIHS 90.10) norm. Additionally, the BM12-1975A comes with a convenient five-day power reserve with full chronometer precision (-4/+6 seconds per day over the entire 120 hour power reserve), and considerably longer intervals between services.

The Clifton Baumatic’s new movement offers significantly enhanced protection and accuracy at the same time: The Clifton Baumatic’s new movement uses silicon and non-ferromagnetic elements for the two most sensitive part of a mechanical movement, the regulating organ (including the hairspring) and the escapement.
