Roll up, one and all, March Mania has reached its second round! At this stage, our eight competing writers get a rest. Rob and Dave will present our weary warriors’ remaining four watches over the next four days, with each post featuring the winners of two first-round votes.

We’re starting with the four survivors from Jorg’s group and four survivors from Balazs’ lineup. The writers aren’t going head-to-head just yet, so the seedings attached to each watch stay put from the previous round. By the end of the week, we’ll be down to the final two from each initial group of 12 as we barrel towards the showpiece final. As always, what we need from you is simple: vote for your favorite watch and let us know why in the comments below. Remember, one lucky commenter will win a Hamilton Intra-Matic Automatic Chronograph so the more your comment, the better chance you have.

Login to your Fratello account and drop us a comment. Who did you vote for and why? What’s your prediction for the later rounds? Will the Omega Speedmaster 321 triumph once again… Who knows? You decide!

Jorg’s Group:

(1) Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight Navy Blue Vs. Glashütte Original Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition 2020 (5)

Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight Blue.021

Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight Navy Blue

Well, well, well. This is fun. After watching from afar, I finally get to step into the ring in place of Jorg and Balazs as they enjoy a much-needed bye week. So I (Bobsled Bobby) will walk you through my feelings regarding the eight watches we need your help to whittle down to four today. We’re starting with the Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight Navy Blue. A worthy number one seed out of the prelims, the Tudor Black Bay proves its popularity was down to more than just the hype surrounding its release, but now it faces some seriously stiff competition in the shape of the GO Sixties Limited Edition. Two very blue dials for your consideration, yes, but only one of these camps will be blue with the result. Which I’m hoping goes the way of…

Glashütte Original Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition 2020

…the Glashütte Original Sixties Chronograph. On no! A bit of bias! Forgive me. As you may have noticed on Instagram, Balazs and I have been hosting regular IG Live sessions to discuss the runners in this race and we do NOT hold back when it comes to our favorites and their foes. Sure, the Tudor is really nice and just about one of the best bang-for-buck luxury models out there, but the Glashütte Original Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition 2020 is special. It is really special. The Tudor will always be okay. It will never let you down. But will it wow you? Does it stir something inside you? If so, by all means, chuck it a vote. Mine is staying right here with another masterful visage from Pforzheim and a masterwork movement from Glashütte.

(2) Czapek Antarctique Terre Adélie Vs. Seiko SLA037J1 55th Anniversary Diver (3)

Czapek-Antarctique-Watch

Czapek Antarctique Terre Adélie

The Czapek Antarctique Terre Adélie was my favorite release of 2020. I know it has its haters (so did the Royal Oak) and that’s fine. I know not everyone thinks it will stand the test of time (people said the same thing about the Nautilus) and I understand their reticence to commit to anything in these uncertain times. I’ll tell you this much, though: if I live another, say, 20 years, I promise you that in 20 years I will still be talking about this watch. Hell, I plan on wearing one by then. That’s how much I like it. It has a tricky opponent to get past in this round, but if the GO can knock off the Tudor, Czapek might have a chance to outduel it to become Jorg’s ultimate champion. I know that would make him very happy indeed…

Seiko Prospex SLA037J1.003

Seiko SLA037J1 55th Anniversary Diver

This is a top watch. No word of a lie. But does it stand out above its peers in the same way the Czapek does? You tell me, dear readers. I feel this vote could be really close for a mixture of all the right and wrong reasons. The Seiko SLA037J1 55th Anniversary Diver is an awesome re-creation of the legendary 62MAS, debuting last year to celebrate 55 years of Seiko divers. It has the looks, it has the credentials, but does it have your support? Show us below.

Balazs’ Group:

(1) Moser & Cie. Streamliner Flyback  Vs. Nivada Grenchen Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver (4)

Moser & Cie. Streamliner Flyback

I’m a big fan of the Moser brand, and although I’ve extolled the potential longevity of the Streamliner design, it isn’t really for me personally. I mean, I can see it is a majestic piece of work and I would defend it to the grave, but it isn’t what I get a thrill from when I look down at my wrist. Don’t ask me to put too fine a point on it, because every element in isolation is to my liking. I guess if you’re forcing me, I would say it is a bit too organic for my taste — a bit too flowing. However, the H. Moser & Cie. Streamliner Flyback would be a worthy champion for the Hungarian Horntail. And, to be frank, if it can make it past the Nivada, I fancy it to completely crush whatever’s waiting for it.

Nivada Grenchen Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver

The Nivada Grenchen Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver is dangerous. It’s a stunner. However, I must admit that I didn’t love it at first. Apparently, I used to be an idiot. Hopefully, my idiocy has worn off permanently. Now I see it for what it is: one of the finest re-editions in the history of re-editions. Seedings are weird sometimes. I genuinely think the Moser will steamroll the 2 and 3 seeds we have for you below whichever makes it through (and I fancy the Omega to pull the minor upset here), but I do think the Nivada will run the Moser close. I might be crazy. Let me know below.

(2) Oris × Momotaro Vs. Omega Seamaster 300M (3)

Oris x Momotaro Sixty-Five.007

Oris × Momotaro

Yeah, I don’t get it. I love Oris. The brand is capable of some pretty stunning stuff when it comes to collaborations. Look at the Save the Ocean watches. What about the beautiful Oxblood Fratelloris from December? Has anyone seen the Oris Movemeber editions? Awesome stuff. But jeans? Okay, “Japanese Selvedge Denim”, if you prefer. I remember when Hublot put a denim strap on a watch. Everyone laughed. But at least Hublot had the decency to make the Texalum case look like denim too. It was nuts, but it was nuts in a full-blooded way. Meanwhile, the Oris × Momotaro pulls out of the stunning backflip at the last second and fluffs the landing with that wishy-washy green dial. What’s that you say? That’s what you like about it? Oh, right, I guess it’s just me then… But wouldn’t you prefer…

300M Chronograph

Omega Seamaster 300M

…a nice, reliable, faithful, dependable Omega Seamaster 300M Chronograph? Welcome to one of the best boring watches you will ever see. It’s well priced, powered by a nice movement, it has Goldilocks sizing, and does absolutely nothing wrong. If you’re single and looking for an inoffensive partner to play +1 to your sibling/best friend/distantly-related-fatter-and-uglier-than-you cousin’s wedding, this is the kind of stand-up guy you can bank on laughing at your dad’s jokes and not throwing up on his own loafers. Or perhaps not even wearing loafers to a wedding in the first place (result).

Basically, the dude’s a mensch. Sure, you won’t remember his name three weeks after the confetti settles but you sure as hell won’t regret it. In my world, that’s worth a vote.
