It’s Speedy Tuesday! We get so many emails from readers who would love to buy a (vintage) Speedmaster watch, preferably complete with the original box and papers. Well, last week I’ve come across this advertisement on the omegaforums.net platform and it probably is a rare chance for you to buy a full vintage set of an Omega Speedmaster Professional 105.012.

Omega Speedmaster Professional 105.012

As you probably know by now, the Omega Speedmaster Professional 105.012 is considered to be the first Moonwatch model that actually was worn on the Moon by Buzz Aldrin. Neil Armstrong left his Omega Speedmaster Professional 105.012 in the command module since the (Bulova) board clock broke down and astronaut Michael Collins wore his Omega Speedmaster Professional 145.012 while waiting for his colleagues to return.

Although you could come across Omega Speedmaster Professional 105.012 models with -63 engraved in the case back, these models were first delivered early 1964 according to the research written in Moonwatch Only.

The Omega Speedmaster Professional 105.012 we’ve come across on the omegaforums platform is a so-called 105.012-66. Just like the -63 reference, the -66 reference was also delivered one year after, so in 1967. This particular 105.012-66 reference was in production from 1967 to 1968 and is the last model before the 145.012 was shortly produced.

The seller of this Omega Speedmaster Professional 105.012 offers the complete package, which means that it comes with:

  • inner (red) box and outer (yellow-ish) carton box
  • original 1039 bracelet with 516 end-links
  • original papers, warranty booklet, instruction manual

According to the seller the watch itself is all original (with original stepped dial, bezel, crown and pushers). Although the (time correct box) has been added later, the papers definitely belongs to the watch.

Of course, this true ‘Moonwatch’ has the Omega caliber 321 (Lemania 2310) movement inside, of which the serial number starts with 24,9xx,xxxx. This indeed indicates a production year between 1967 and 1968.

Although the earlier 105.012 are probably higher in demand, we don’t come across a full set being offered for sale that often. You might want to consider buying a full package of a vintage watch that is somewhat newer than a head-only or watch only from a slightly earlier period.

As you can see in the gallery below, this Omega Speedmaster Professional 105.012 has the single step case back. Even though the double step case back is a bit more popular, the more recent Speedmaster Pro 105.012 models have a single step one. The bezel on this watch has the Dot Over Ninety and seems to be correct as well.

Omega Speedmaster Professional 105.012As you can see in the ad, the seller asks 4500 GBP for the whole package including signed and insured delivery. As you can see in our recent developed Omega Speedmaster Price guide, the average asking price for a reference 105.012 was approximately 4900 Euro on average in the first half of 2014.

This considered, the 4500 GBP seems like a fair price for such a collectors piece (or set). Please see below all the images of the watch.
