At the 6th edition of the biennial Only Watch charity auction we will see this year as many as 42 unique timepieces being hammered. Nine more than the last Only Watch auction in 2013.

Without any doubt the stainless steel Patek Philippe Grande Complication (tourbillon, minute repeater and perpetual calendar with moon-phase) with reference 5016A-010 will be the show stopper and a league of its own again. At the 2013 Only Watch auction the stainless steel Patek Philippe 5004T alone brought almost 60% of the total auction result (€ 2.950.000,= of € 5.066.000,=).

Of course the 5016A-010 in my list of favorite watches for this years auction as well. You simply can’t love watches and don’t like this watch; the reason alone that this extremely complicated watch is made in ‘simple’ stainless steel is enough for me. However which are my other favorites, and why?

This years above mentioned Patek Philippe entry isn’t quite an example of it, but I do like technical watches with uncluttered dials most. Watches which appeal by their technical quality, construction or finish more than by their quantity of functions. Kind of ‘less is more’ or ‘something is perfect if you can’t take anything away anymore (not if you can’t add anything anymore)’.

Here are, besides the Patek, my Top 7 favorites of the 2015 Only Watch auction; not in terms of the watches I think which will fetch the highest amounts, however just how much I like them.

Separate Mention – Richard Mille

I would like to separately mention the watch Richard Mille brings in. Besides being a technical delight, Rafael Nadal wore this ‘Tourbillon RM 27-02 Rafael Nadal‘ during the 2015 tennis season which makes it extra special and unique in my opinion.

The Only Watch 2015 auction, for the benefit of research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy, will take place in November 2015 in Geneva. Before the auction, there will be a promotional world tour, starting in Monaco, in the heart of the world’s benchmark superyacht event, the Monaco Yacht Show, from September 23 to 26, continuing with stops in Europe, the United States, and Asia.
