Here at Fratello, we obviously love watches, but we also love to meet with other watch enthusiasts. What better way to host an event for our readers in a beautiful place where you can enjoy some stunning masterpieces of German watchmaking?

Baden-Baden, where you can enjoy the good-good life, is where we held our Glashütte Original event together with Tourbillon Boutique. A beautiful city in the Black Forest area in Germany, a popular destination for many tourists. But you will also find a lot of people from the area visiting Baden-Baden for their spas and beautiful surrounding nature. Last year, we already held an Omega Trilogy event in the Tourbillon boutique in Baden-Baden, and last Saturday we worked together with Glashütte Original to show their novelties and give an insight into German watchmaking.

The small but cosy Tourbillon Boutique in Baden-Baden carries a variety of watch brands, like Omega, Blancpain, Breguet, Harry Winston, Jacquet Droz but also the German Glashütte Original. Tourbillon Boutique is a multi-brand concept from Swatch Group, hence the brands I just mentioned. Tourbillon Boutiques can be found around in Europe and the United States. In other years, we also hosted events in the Tourbillon Boutique in Amsterdam for example.

Baden-Baden Glashütte Original Event

Baden-Baden is not really a central location in Germany, so some people had to drive for hours to join us for this special Glashütte Original event. The program was easy-going, a little introduction of the Glashütte brand and the presentation of their 2018 novelties (and specialities from other years). Besides that, there was a watchmaker from Glashütte that gave demonstrations on watchmaking and dial-making. Both fields of expertise are in-house with Glashütte Original, the first in Glashütte itself and the latter in the city of Pforzheim. Pforzheim is one of those other cities in Germany famous for its gold & silver industry as well as watchmaking. The dial manufactury in Pforzheim is owned by Glashütte Original and provides them with some amazing work, like the beautiful Sixties dials we’ve seen appearing in the last few years.

Glashütte Original also brought some of their vintage watches from their museum/archives, models that inspired the Sixties collection. These watches were – of course – much smaller, but the shape and design elements have been respected for the new models. The rich watchmaking history of Glashütte Original can be witnessed in the Deutsches Uhrenmuseum in Glashütte (German Watchmaking museum), well-worth a visit if you are visiting that (Berlin/Dresden) area in Germany. To give the guests an idea about the skills necessary for watchmaking, they could have a sit behind the desk and give it a try themselves. Glashütte Original brought some movements that could be abused for this ; – )

Together with our guests, we also enjoyed a great Italian lunch in Baden-Baden, in restaurant Garibaldi. After lunch, we returned to the boutique where people could pick-up their Glashütte Original goodie bag but most stayed for a bit longer to enjoy and play with watches.

It was an amazing day with great guests. More information on Glashütte Original can be found in our manufacture visit report and of course on their official website.

Below, a selection of watches some of the guests were wearing.
