Not long ago, we were contacted by artist Diederick Kraaijeveld to tell us about his Speedmaster art. Diederick is an artist from The Netherlands and create iconic pieces out of salvaged and found wood (in old buildings, on beaches etc). He does NOT paint the pieces, he only use a saw and over 50.000 kilo of painted wood that is being stored in his workshop. Details like the hour markers, bezel etc are spray painted of course.

For the 15th anniversary of Amsterdam Watch Company, that deals in (vintage) watches, he was asked to create an artwork around one of the most iconic timepieces, the Speedmaster. This resulted in this beautiful Speedmaster art, based on a – what we’d say – an early reference 145.022.

Speedmaster Art

For Diederick, it was an honor to do create this Speedmaster art, as he is a huge space age fan and watch enthusiast himself as well. The artwork is 160cm tall, and put-together as a mosaic.

This piece is a unique one-off, especially made for Amsterdam Watch Company.
