Stuttgart. With a view to the upcoming international watch show, Baselword, next spring, Europe’s leading luxury and lifestyle brand for men, Porsche Design, is pre-senting another new collection of timepieces: After the renowned German brand, that has become known for its innovative product design, celebrated its passion for racing with the “Chronotimer Collection”, the new “1919 Collection” is honoring an-other important milestone in the brand’s history – the Bauhaus movement in architecture and design, which had a profound influence on the company’s founder, Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. While the “Chronotimer Collection” repre-sents dynamics and sportiness, the new “1919 Collection” perfectly embodies serenity, well-balanced aesthetics, and purist minimalism, which are key elements of the international success and longevity of the Bauhaus style. The collection will be available at international Porsche Design flagship stores and exclusive fine watch retailers this fall.

“With this collection, we are uniting the past with the future,” explains Dr. Christian Kurtzke, President & CEO at the Porsche Design Group. “We are honoring the Bau-haus style as a significant element of our brand’s DNA and are celebrating the upcoming Bauhaus centenary in 2019. I don’t know any other watchmaker that can convey these aspects with the same level of authenticity as Porsche Design.”

Focusing on the Essentials

The “1919 Datetimer Series 1” uniquely applies the functional standard of modern architecture to the design of high-quality timepieces. The characteristic gaps at the band attachment and the form-locking transition into the strap add particular light-ness to the puristic aesthetic. The reduced structure of the dial draws the attention to the essential information, the display of time and date.

The “1919 Datetimer Series 1” comes in four individual models of timeless elegance and handcrafted perfection that have been crafted to last.

Linking Time and Space

The “1919 Globetimer Series 1” expands the puristic design of the “1919 Collection” with an integrated display for a second time zone. A 24-hour ring was added to the dial, featuring an additional hand indicating the time in a second time zone. A fea-ture that is especially appealing to international travelers, spending time in multiple time zones. The “1919 Globetimer Series 1” displays the time simultaneously at the destination as well as at home and is available in four models. The case back shows the 24 global time zones.

Inspired by the Bauhaus Movement

Art and craftsmanship. When it comes to functionalism in classic modernism these two terms are inseparable. This is most clearly exemplified by the architecture of the Bauhaus movement, featuring impeccable functionality and timeless elegance. As early as 1963, with the creation of the legendary Porsche 911 silhouette, Prof. F. A. Porsche demonstrated that a timeless form can be created with a minimalist design language that is functional and reduced to the essentials. In 1972, he incorporated this iconic design into his own company – Porsche Design. This signature continues to drive the company today.
