48 Years Ago The Speedmaster Became The Moonwatch
On July 21st, at 2:56 UTC, Armstrong set foot on the Moon and spoke his famous words. Not much later, Buzz Aldrin followed him. On his wrist, the Omega Speedmaster Professional – from that moment on, the ‘Moonwatch’.
Normally, we cover the Speedmaster exclusively on Tuesday here on Fratello, but for this special date, we make an exception of course. Today, 48 years ago, the Omega Speedmaster became the Moonwatch. Not by coincidence of course, and certainly not without a series of extreme testing. No, the Moonwatch was qualified for all manned space flights in 1965 and about 4 years later, it was on the wrists of the crew that would be the first of 12 men that were (ever) on the Moon.
For this occasion, we revised our article on how the Speedmaster became the Moonwatch. It is completely up-to-date and verified with Omega, and similar (except some different images) to the article as printed in the Speedy Tuesday Magazine we announced recently.
