IFL Watches Introduces The Bulova Super Seville Honeycomb Limited Edition
IFL Watches has been using the Bulova Super Seville as a canvas for some of its latest dial creations. I love Bulova’s retro Super Seville, so I welcome the creative takes that the team at IFL develops. For this latest limited-edition release, the artists at IFLW came up with a special hand-painted honeycomb dial. The dial is a tribute to the honeybee, “nature’s ultimate precision worker,” and it comes with a custom bee-inspired seconds hand. The result is a fun take on Bulova’s Super Seville that will be available in a limited run of 500 pieces. Let’s check out what the watch is all about.
You might be wondering why the team at IFLW created this special honeycomb dial. Is it a tribute to the vintage Rolex honeycomb dials? While that could have been an option, the answer is a lot simpler. The team at IFLW found inspiration in connecting nature’s hardest workers to the Bulova Precisionist caliber that powers the watch. As the brand explains, the honeybee has perfected the art of high-frequency precision. A honeybee’s wings move up and down at a mind-blowing frequency of 200–300 times per second. It is the high-frequency buzz that gives the bee its purpose. It creates flight, builds communities, and transforms nectar into honey.
The story of the Bulova Super Seville Honeycomb connects the movement to honeybees
If you study the life and movements of bees, you know that it’s all based on working hard and building a home with remarkable precision. The hexagonal honeycomb cells that bees create are a perfect manifestation of precision engineering. The bees create them to be strong and reliable and to maximize efficiency. The same philosophy can be applied to Bulova’s Precisionist movement. The caliber operates at 262,144 oscillations per second, which is eight times the frequency of a regular quartz movement. As a result of this high beat frequency, the seconds hand sweeps gracefully over the dial. Additionally, the reliable powertrain of the Super Seville never pauses and is dedicated to great precision.
This fun connection led to a dial that’s quite different from the colorful creations we usually see from IFLW. The canvas for this new 500-piece limited edition is the silver-dial version of the Super Seville. It has a 37.5mm TV-style case with a 10.5mm thickness and a 42.3mm lug-to-lug. Topping the case is a fluted bezel that gives the watch its retro character. I love the charming looks of the Super Seville. They have proven to be the perfect canvas for creative dials. My favorite is the turquoise version from the Stone Dial Collection that Bulova created with Complecto late last year.
A hand-painted dial
But IFLW also showed great creativity with the Super Seville Mural, which the brand unveiled in April of this year. The dial of that 300-piece limited edition was a tribute to New York street art. For that version, the team at IFLW decided to keep the minute track and the applied markers on the dial. It created a distinctly retro vibe that perfectly suited the artwork on the dial. For this new Honeycomb LE, however, the brand decided to take a different route.
As you can see, the new Honeycomb dial loses the hour markers, the Bulova logo, the date, and the minute track to create a proper blank canvas. First, the artists at IFLW hand-painted a honeycomb texture across the dial. After that, golden honey drops are scattered throughout, reminding us of the bees’ dedication to creating the sweet honey we love. Speaking of the bees, as you can see, the watch also comes with a custom seconds hand. Its counterweight features a flying bee that travels across the dial during the day. The result of all this is a fun dial that tells a whimsical visual story.
As mentioned, the story ties to the Bulova NM10 Precisionist caliber that powers the watch. This quartz movement operates at a 262kHz frequency and is accurate to within a few seconds per year. Additionally, the caliber can withstand extreme temperature changes, and as already mentioned, the seconds hand glides smoothly over the dial. It ensures that the bee also moves in a fluid motion, as it would in nature. Finishing the monochromatic look of the watch is the integrated bracelet that tapers nicely from the lugs to the clasp. It makes the watch not just fun to see but also a joy to wear.
Final thoughts on the new Bulova Super Seville Honeycomb Limited Edition
Overall, I like this new Honeycomb Limited Edition from IFLW. It is a refreshing change from the usual art that we see on the dials of the IFLW limited editions. It’s less bold and in your face, and I think it will attract many people who might not be fans of the usual street-art style that the brand is known for. That’s not to say that this new Super Seville Honeycomb LE doesn’t stand out, though.
Another detail that I like is that every dial is unique. Each one will look different because all of the 500 dials are painted by hand. On top of that, the pattern gives the artists the chance to change up the placement of the honeydrops, meaning each owner will wear a uniquely personal watch. If you are interested in getting your hands on one for €1,190, head over to the official IFL Watches website. The watch will launch today, July 7th, at 4:00 PM CEST, and with the popularity of the IFLW’s limited editions, you might want to be quick. This new IFLW Bulova Super Seville Honeycomb Limited Edition will sell out fast.
