[Video] Talking Speedmasters — An Interview With Omega CEO Raynald Aeschlimann

It’s our pleasure to present our video interview with Omega CEO and President Raynald Aeschlimann. He talks to Fratello about his all-time favorite Speedmaster watch, as well as his first Speedmaster ever. And yes, of course, we ask him about the MoonSwatch.

I remember meeting Raynald Aeschlimann for the first time during a golf event in Switzerland in 2014. At the time, he was Omega’s Vice President of Sales (worldwide). We spoke briefly, and he made a remark about Speedy Tuesday. I can’t remember the exact wording, but from what he said, it was clear that he liked the initiative. The fact that he even knew about it caught me by surprise, as Speedy Tuesday had just started two years prior.

Helping take Speedy Tuesday to the next level

But Mr. Aeschlimann did indeed know about it and would become a big supporter of the Speedy Tuesday community. When he became the CEO and President of Omega in 2016, we started to talk more about the initiative and held the first Speedy Tuesday event in Biel, Switzerland. Before that, we had organized the events on our own or with a local Omega branch. It was during that event that we had the idea for a Speedmaster “Speedy Tuesday” edition to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the community. The rest, as they say, is history. This year is the 10th anniversary of Speedy Tuesday, and during our event in Biel a few weeks ago, I sat down with Raynald Aeschlimann in the Omega Museum to talk about Speedmasters.

You’ll find out why he liked the Speedmaster from the moment he saw one, as well as which model he likes best and why. He talks about the celebratory Speedmaster Broad Arrow in Canopus white gold that debuted on the first (Speedy) Tuesday of 2022, and we discuss the effects of the MoonSwatch thus far. Finally, he tells us whether we can expect any other 65th-anniversary Speedmasters this year.
