Furlan Marri Unveils The Striking New Disco Diamonds Onyx
One of last year’s most surprising releases was Furlan Marri’s Disco Volante series. The trio of watches stylishly revived a classic case shape we rarely see these days. Now, Furlan Marri introduces the next Disco Volante model for Geneva Watch Days 2025. But it’s not just another dial color. For this new Disco Diamonds Onyx, the brand equipped the watch with a black onyx dial that features lab-grown baguette diamonds as hour markers. Does that sound too extravagant? Well, it isn’t. The result is one of the best releases of this year’s Geneva Watch Days.
Sometimes, watches do not need lengthy explanations. The new Furlan Marri Disco Diamonds Onyx is one such watch. It only requires an adventurous expedition of the eyes to understand that this is not just your average Disco Volante. Last year’s three inaugural models stood out in the ongoing stream of new releases. Thor reviewed the Disco Havana variant (my favorite of the three) with its brown and matte salmon dial. The other two are the blue (Celeste) and green (Verde) versions, forming one of the permanent series in the brand’s catalog.
The Furlan Marri Disco Diamonds Onyx
Let’s go over the details of today’s new version. The new Disco Diamonds Onyx features the same characteristic 38mm stainless steel case with a stepped bezel and invisible lugs as the inaugural models. The completely round case has an 8.95mm profile and a 50m water resistance rating. As Thor explained, the curvaceous bezel and two distinct brushed bands give the intricate case design an architectural quality. On top of that, the brand ensured that wearing the watch is an absolute joy thanks to the curvature of the hidden lugs.
But the big news today is the dial, of course. The team at Furlan Marri eschewed the regular two-tone dial design in exchange for a stunning deep black onyx dial. The design is significantly simpler, as it eliminates all the numerals. Instead, the dial is dressed up with lab-grown baguette-cut diamond hour markers. They join the small seconds sub-dial at 6 o’clock and the double-printed logo and indications to make for a brilliantly understated composition. Lastly, the domed hour and minute hands with Super-LumiNova inserts hover smoothly over the stunning black backdrop.
The super-thin ETA 7001 caliber
Powering the watch is the manual-winding ultra-thin ETA 7001 caliber. As Thor explained, all bridges of the 2.5mm-slim movement have been redesigned and incorporate Côtes de Genève. Additionally, the caliber features clean diamond-polished edges, a black-polished and chamfered crown wheel and screws, and a gold Furlan Marri logo. Fabrique d’ébauches de Peseux SA first introduced its caliber 7001 in 1971. Even though Peseux joined ETA in 1985, many watch fans still refer to the movement as the Peseux 7001. It operates at 21,600vph and offers 42 hours of power reserve. Its super-slim design makes it the perfect choice for the elegant Disco Volante series.
Final thoughts on the new Fulan Marri Disco Diamonds Onyx
As soon as I opened the press images, I knew I was in for a treat. And that’s not just because of that beautiful, deep black dial with diamonds. Finishing the stylish look is a Herringbone-style mesh bracelet. It features a sliding clasp for easy sizing, curved spring bars, and a round tip. Buyers will also get a vegetable-tanned black textured leather strap with matching stitching. While that also looks great, the bracelet takes it to another level for me. It adds another dimension of style and sophistication, making it an instant favorite.
The new Furlan Marri Disco Diamonds Onyx is a stunning addition to the Disco Volante lineup. The watch is limited in production as the brand can only make a small number per year. But I love that this model is not a limited edition with a maximum production number. The watch will be available for CHF 3,500 (excluding taxes) directly from Furlan Marri. Considering that the price is CHF 1,000 higher than the regular model, I think that is a very reasonable step up. What you get in return is one of my favorite releases of this year. It was a totally unexpected one as well, making it even better.
