You Can Find Me In Da Club: Introducing The Hublot Big Bang Meca-10 Street Art Editions
Put your 34mm 1960s-inspired dress watch aside for a moment. Turn your watch-snobbery hat backwards for a second. Swap your tortoise-shell glasses for colored lenses for a night. Are you ready for a bit of a party as we approach the year’s end? Yes? All right, let’s dive into the new Hublot Big Bang Meca-10 Street Art editions, then!
Hublot threw a big party in Miami to mark the end of its Big Bang anniversary year. No jazz trios, smoking jackets, or caviar here. Hublot leaves all of that to other brands. When Hublot throws a party, you get a performance by none other than 50 Cent and attendance from a wide range of stars from the entertainment industry. Do we care? Not really. However, the brand dropped a quartet of watches at this party that just screams Miami nightlife. And I do care about that! Let’s have a closer look!
Hublot Big Bang Meca-10
I am well aware that many watch enthusiasts’ minds close when we talk about Hublot. That’s not entirely warranted, so allow me to revisit the Meca-10 for a moment. The Big Bang Meca-10 line stands out in Hublot’s catalog because the brand developed it fully in-house. These manual-winding calibers deliver an impressive 10-day power reserve.
Hublot skeletonizes the movements in a distinctly modern manner. The escapement, for instance, sits on the front of the movement and remains visible through the dial. You also get a large power-reserve indicator that shows the remaining time in days.
What I particularly like about these movements is how they visually integrate with the broader Hublot aesthetic. The skeletonized calibers seem to fuse with the Big Bang case, creating a visual unity that feels unapologetically modern and aggressive. The whole thing resembles a miniaturized set from a sci-fi movie. I could easily see Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker chase each other across these bridges with their lightsabers, sharply contrasting the moody, anthracite surfaces. Okay, I may be getting carried away here. I did not touch any X or bub, I promise. These colors must be messing with my mind.
The new Street Art editions
Okay, on to today’s new versions of the Meca-10 Big Bang. Hublot releases four Big Bang Meca-10 Street Art editions in bright — extremely bright! — colors. These cases are made of what the brand calls “cracked composite concrete.” The cracks glow in vivid, luminous colors.
Next, Hublot applies a splattered paint job using even more vibrant luminous hues. The entire theme continues seamlessly from the case onto the textured rubber strap. The result looks like someone transferred the design of a pair of 1980s spandex aerobic tights onto a Big Bang. And you know what? I love it!
Initial impressions of the Hublot Big Bang Meca-10 Street Art editions
A smoked sapphire mid-case further enhances the design. No one could describe the result as timeless elegance or subtle. But hey, must we always stay measured and restrained? Can’t we just let our hair down for once? Or perhaps wear it up, reinforced with a ton of hairspray?
Sure, you could argue that a fun, colorful watch belongs at the more affordable end of the spectrum. After all, it probably won’t serve as your daily driver, right? In true Hublot fashion, these certainly don’t qualify as affordable. You will have to part with a cool US$57,500 to make one of these yours. Still, seeing this under blacklight on the same hand you use to carry your bottle of Effen Vodka to the VIP section feels priceless, doesn’t it?
I am sure the 10 pieces of each color disappeared long before we published this article. Even so, I can’t help but smile when I look at these watches as an exercise in glorious tomfoolery. I hope they do the same for you. Now, back to our daily grind of serious horological critique and fine taste!
