Starting a watch brand in this day and age is quite an undertaking. Given the economic climate and all that’s happening in the world, it can be a daunting endeavor. That’s why I take my hat off to people brave enough to start this adventure in 2026 — in this case, Worn & Wound co-founder Zach Weiss. If you are familiar with different watch media, Worn & Wound and Zach’s name will sound familiar to you. Weiss announced the launch of his brand OraOrea in late January of this year. Two months later, OraOrea launches its inaugural Coriolis Pointer Date collection. It consists of three retro pointer-date watches with an undeniable charm. Let’s find out more about OraOrea’s debut series.

When developing the new Coriolis, Zach Weiss first started thinking about the hour display. The way that he executed it is quite original, and it immediately gives the watch character. It features Roman numerals alternating with 18K gold hemispheres on two tiers separated by a railroad track. The result of this design is that your eyes constantly move clockwise in sync with the movement of the hands. This traditional yet unusual time display inspired the name Coriolis, which is a pseudo force that makes moving objects appear to deflect one way or another due to the rotation of the surface beneath.

The design of the OraOrea Coriolis Pointer Date

Once Weiss had the design of the hour display figured out, all the different elements fell into place automatically. Within the confines of the two-tier hour display is the date track. In a playful twist, the first half shows dots for the even dates and numerals for the odd ones, while the second half has even numerals and dots for the odd dates. Weiss achieved this by using dotted markers for both the 16th and 17th of the month. Another nice detail is that the three Coriolis models feature custom-designed numerals.

Hovering over the dial are four beautifully executed hands. The skeletonized hour hand features an extra arrow-shaped pointer, while the long pencil-style minute hand and the razor-thin seconds hand with the lollipop counterbalance contrast with it nicely, adding to the overall character and presence. Last but not least is the smaller skeletonized date hand, which is the lowest of the four but perfectly completes the handset. I love the different hand styles because they make it easy to distinguish their functions while maintaining a harmonious look.

Three dial variations for the Coriolis Pointer Date

Weiss decided to offer three versions for the inaugural drop. One is the Skyline Silver model, which features blue contrasting details. The second is the Venetus Teal (pictured above) with silver-colored and gold details. Lastly, there is the Rhodium Black variant, which has all silver-colored dial elements except for a gold-tone date hand.

I particularly appreciate the size and style of the date numerals. Weiss ensured that they do not take center stage but feel a bit more subdued while remaining legible. This choice makes sense, as you will usually check the time more often than the date. Thanks to the execution, the dial looks nicely layered and beautifully detailed in its functional solutions.

Each of the three dials sits inside a 38.5mm by 45mm case. The case itself has a slender 9.3mm profile, with the domed sapphire crystal adding the rest of the watch’s 12.1mm total thickness. This round exterior is nicely proportioned and features wide, sweeping lugs.

Beautifully detailed finishing accentuates the watch’s gentle curves. To allow this, the case consists of multiple individually finished components, including independent lug wings. The circular-brushed bezel displays a nice polished edge, and the polished bevels flow gracefully along the length of the case. Finishing the look is a nicely proportioned 6mm crown that fits the overall design perfectly.

The Sellita SW386-1 inside

If you turn the watch around, you will get a clear view of the new SW386-1 movement. Sellita added this caliber to its lineup in late 2025, and OraOrea is the first brand to use it. The 25-jewel movement ticks away 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 56-hour power reserve. Weiss chose the Top Grade version, which is adjusted in five positions, with an accuracy of ±4 to ±15 seconds per day.

Additionally, the caliber bears Sellita’s most elaborate level of finishing, featuring perlage on the plates and bridges, blued screws, snailed edges, rhodium plating, and a customized rotor bearing OraOrea’s logo-glyph. A nice detail is that the first 100 pieces of each color will feature a rotor marked with “OraOrea Founder’s Edition” to celebrate the brand’s launch.

Final thoughts on the new OraOrea Coriolis Pointer Date Collection

All three Coriolis models come fitted with an undyed, vegetable-tanned 20/16mm leather strap with hand-sewn saddle stitching on the edges and a branded stainless steel pin buckle with a mix of finishes. It’s a well-chosen leather strap that will gain more character the more you wear it.

The three models are available for pre-order now for US$3,950 on the brand’s official website, with deliveries expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2026.
