After a full year of Fratello × REM Speedmaster straps, we decided to continue this collaboration in 2024. Along the way, we gained more ideas and inspiration for future strap designs. We’re thankful to all of you who have ordered one of these straps (some of you simply ordered every one of them), and we hope you enjoy them!

For the first Fratello × REM strap of 2024, we decided to go with a design that works well with the Speedmaster Professional Japan Racing (2004) and the Speedmaster Mark II 145.014 with a racing dial. However, in our opinion, it will also look good on the regular Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch.

Speedmaster and racing

As you probably know (and the name suggests), the Speedmaster was developed with (racing) sports in mind. A tachymeter bezel doesn’t make much sense in space, of course, and it was long before NASA started the search for chronographs that the astronauts could use.

In very early advertisements, we can see Omega linking the watch to motorsports. Back in 2019, Balazs also wrote an article on several racing legends and their Speedmaster watches. Until 2010, Omega even had F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher as a Speedmaster ambassador.

Japan Racing Dial

Last week, I wrote an article about the Speedmaster Japan Racing watch. In short, this year marks the 20th anniversary of that model, which was introduced in 2004. Since then, Omega has released a racing dial in the Speedmaster Two Counters collection (44.25mm) and one of the modern Speedmaster Mark II Co-Axial models.

With the racing dial in mind, REM and Fratello came up with a design for a strap that matches the 2004 Japan Racing limited edition. That said, it will also suit the regular Moonwatch or Mark II models with a racing dial.

It’s in the details

We went for a black leather strap and added the white and red “curbs” pattern to match those on the outer track on the dial of the Speedmaster. As you can see in the pictures, the Speedmaster Racing Dial also has orange details, such as part of the hour markers, the chronograph hands, and the Omega logo. Therefore, we decided to go for orange stitching for this strap.

These Fratello × REM Speedmaster straps are made of organic leather from Sweden. The entire production process also takes place in Sweden, including the stitching and laser engraving. This strap is available in our shop as of today with a price of €107 (excluding VAT). Click here to order this strap from the Fratello shop.

Restock of previous Fratello × REM Speedmaster straps

Since the straps are handmade in small batches, we try to restock previous Fratello × REM Speedmaster straps as often as possible. We just received a large batch with all of the Fratello × REM straps from 2023 and updated our shop’s stock numbers again.
