Introducing: New Additions To The Hublot Classic Fusion Line
With LVMH Watch Week in full swing, Hublot proves to be one of the most active houses, releasing a host of new models. I already covered new additions to the Big Bang collection, Jorg covered the Djokovic LEs, and today, I return with more news from the Classic Fusion line. These new models include a UEFA Europa League limited edition chronograph and several references in a new Sage Green colorway.
The Europa League special edition comes in a very limited run of only 50 pieces. However, the Sage Green models become part of the regular non-limited Hublot collection. Join me for a closer look!
The new Hublot Classic Fusion Chronograph UEFA Europa League Titanium Carbon
Ain’t that a mouthful? If you want to get a feel for how rare this watch will be, consider that there are 10 more characters in its name than total watches produced. The regular titanium Classic Fusion Chronograph serves as the base for this limited edition. You get the same 42mm by 11.9mm case in titanium. Hublot rates its water resistance at 50 meters (or 5 atm).
Inside ticks the same automatic caliber HUB1153. An ETA 2892-A2 forms the base of this movement, and a chronograph module sits on top, pushing the component count to 269. It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 48-hour power reserve. In Hublot’s guise, it offers a nicely balanced layout with two sub-dials and a date indicator at 6 o’clock.
Now, the above is all familiar territory. Things get a bit different around the dial and bezel. The dial displays a black sunray finish and the UEFA Europa League logo in the 3 o’clock sub-dial. I am more interested in the bezel, though. This forged carbon bezel features flakes of black and gray carbon mixed with orange fiberglass. The resulting material looks like a brighter version of the classic tortoise-shell pattern found in sunglasses and the like. I like it a lot! More of this kind of thing, please, Hublot! This Hublot Classic Fusion Chronograph UEFA Europa League Titanium Carbon costs €14,700. Considering the exotic bezel and limited nature of this model, that’s a palatable hike compared to the regular version (€12,000).
The Hublot Classic Fusion Chronograph Titanium Sage Green
On to our second new reference, the Classic Fusion Chronograph Titanium Sage Green. Before we get into the details, here’s the short story: this is a new colorway of an existing model. So, you get the familiar 45mm Grade 5 titanium case with a 13mm thickness and 50m water resistance. Hublot applies a handsome mix of polishing and brushing to its titanium exterior.
Inside ticks the equally familiar caliber HUB1143. It seems Hublot refers to this movement as 1143 when it’s inside larger (45mm) cases (45mm) and 1153 in smaller (42mm) cases. For all intents and purposes, the caliber is the same as described above for the Europa League limited edition.
The novelty comes in the Sage Green colorway. Is Hublot going soft on us? First, we saw the soft Coal Blue Big Bangs, and now we get the pastel Sage Green Classic Fusions. Although the colors may feel new within Hublot’s style, the brand has always been fashion-focused. This puts these colors in a more sensible light. For what it’s worth, I think the combination of this hue and the silver sub-dials looks very neat indeed. This latest Classic Fusion Chronograph costs €12,200 and comes on a color-matched rubber-and-textile strap.
Classic Fusion Titanium Sage Green
You may know that I have a big soft spot for base-model watches. I love it when a design has all the room to breathe in its most fundamental guise. It’s no wonder, then, that this next watch is my favorite of the bunch. This is the Hublot Classic Fusion Titanium Sage Green.
Again, we know the 42mm time-and-date Classic Fusion in titanium. The house already offers versions in several other colors, including the classic black and online-exclusive taupe. Now, though, we get a version in this shade of green. Inside the 42mm case ticks the caliber HUB1110, based on the trusty Sellita SW300. The intricate Grade 5 titanium case comes with alternating brushed and polished surfaces, and Hublot includes the same green fabric-on-rubber strap as on the chrono version.
This Classic Fusion Titanium Sage Green costs €9,100. If you have a taste for diamonds, you can also opt for a 33mm version with a diamond-set bezel. This model has a price of €10,700.
Closing thoughts
Although thematically linked through their collection (Classic Fusion), these new offerings feel like they occupy different ends of the Hublot spectrum. The UEFA Europa League LE feels right on-brand for the football-minded company. After all, no other brand is as prevalent in the world’s biggest sport as Hublot. In the true Art of Fusion style, that new bezel feels like Hublot through and through.
The new Sage Green models may feel more out of left field. After all, Hublot always prides itself on boldness. Its watches feel like statements, hardly hesitant to take center stage. But have you noticed how the time-only Classic Fusion is aging like fine wine, slowly but surely turning into a classic — dare I say — dressy watch? Viewed from this angle, the soft pastel color makes all the sense in the world. I’d say Hublot isn’t going soft on us; it is maturing.
