Introducing: The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Micro-Rotor Agave Blue
If you’ve listened to Balazs and me on Fratello On Air, you’ll know that I have a huge crush on Parmigiani Fleurier. Specifically, the Tonda PF 36mm is on my radar, but if my wrist were larger, today’s watch would be a likely candidate. Specifically, the brand has introduced the Tonda PF Micro-Rotor Agave Blue, available in a stainless steel or 18K rose gold case with a matching bracelet.
Yes, I’m in love with the Tonda PF. For my money, Parmigiani Fleurier offers the prettiest and most comfortable integrated-bracelet watch for sale today. Therefore, while a color variant might not strike some as the most exciting news, I look forward to seeing how new colors work with the overall design. Thankfully, agave blue pairs beautifully with the Tonda form.
The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Micro-Rotor Agave Blue
Parmigiani’s newest releases follow a familiar format. Whether in stainless steel or 18K rose gold, the watches feature 40mm by 45.6mm cases with a slim 7.8mm profile. Regarding the case material, the stainless steel piece includes a 950 platinum bezel.
Otherwise, the forms of each are similar and include a sapphire crystal, a screw-down crown, and one of the most supple bracelets I’ve ever tried. There’s also no reason to swap watches when it’s pool time, as the pieces have a 100m water resistance rating.
A beautiful shade of blue
If I were picking up the 36mm version of this watch, I’d select the model in stainless steel and stone blue. However, the new agave blue looks like a convincing alternative. Parmigiani selected the tone due to the plant’s complex mix of blue, green, and gray. I’ll withhold final judgment until I see it in person sometime soon, but the color seems to be a perfect fit. Naturally, it uses the brand’s signature, hand-applied Grain d’Orge guilloché finishing and, pleasingly, keeps the decor to a minimum. On the gold model, the applied indexes are made from 18K rose gold. The steel variant has rhodium-plated details.
One of the prettiest movements, the PF703
As the name suggests, these latest Tonda PF models are equipped with a micro-rotor automatic caliber. Because this is a Parmigiani, it’s an in-house one too. The PF703 is viewable via a sapphire case back and doesn’t disappoint. It is replete with Côtes de Genève, perlage, beveled bridges, and a 950 platinum micro-rotor with Grain d’Orge guilloché. From a performance perspective, the PF703 has 48 hours of power reserve and a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, and Parmigiani’s watchmakers adjust the caliber to five positions.
Availability and pricing
The Tonda PF Micro-Rotor Agave Blue models are already featured on the Parmigiani Fleurier website and should be available in stores. The pricing is as expected, with the steel model coming in at CHF 23,700. The gold model is on a different level with a price of CHF 58,000. Are these expensive? Absolutely, but the new dial looks fantastic in what is already a stunning watch.
