Praesidus Introduces Larger Versions Of Its Jungle Field Watch
We have seen a wide variety of military-inspired watches from Praesidus in the past few years. For its first release of 2026, the brand decided to update its most popular model. The Praesidus Jungle Field is now available in a larger 38mm size. It adds a more modern touch to the brand’s biggest seller that will undoubtedly please fans of military field watches. They can now choose from two versions, both of which are great modern interpretations of the GG-W-113 spec developed for US military pilots in 1967. Let’s find out more.
I have had the pleasure of reviewing quite a few Praesidus watches over the past few years. All of them have historical, intriguing military backstories, which makes reading about and wearing them a fun experience. On top of that, Praesidus has made a name for itself by offering great watches for affordable prices. So even if you are less interested in the stories but love the style, it’s impossible to go wrong with one of the brand’s watches. For its latest release, there is a far simpler story. Praesidus decided to update the size of its Jungle Field model. It came after many of the brand’s fans asked for a larger version of the classic field watch. This new Jungle Field Automatic 38 is available in two versions and will undoubtedly please many fans.
The details of the new Praesidus Jungle Field Automatic 38
Let’s go over the details to find out more about the latest Praesidus Jungle Field models. As mentioned, they are inspired by the GG-W-113 spec developed for US military pilots in 1967. The updated case now has a 38mm diameter, a 10.2mm thickness, a 46mm lug-to-lug, and a 100m water resistance rating. Its classic field-watch design is matched with a characteristic black dial featuring large numerals for the first 12 hours and a smaller inner ring with numerals marking 13–24 hours.
On the outside of the larger Arabic numerals, you will find the minute track, including a luminous marker for every five minutes. Hovering over the dial are two large lume-filled sword-style hands and a thin seconds hand with a lollipop counterweight. With no logo on the dial, the design feels very familiar and clean. It makes for a watch that delivers on practicality, just like the original late-’60s field watches it was modeled after.
Two variants to choose from
Praesidus offers two versions of the Jungle Field Automatic 38. The first features a black dial with a grainy texture, large vintage-inspired cream-colored numerals, and crisp white numbers for the inner ring. This look gives the watch plenty of vintage appeal. The second model has fully white numerals, giving the watch a crisper feel without losing its historical context.
The easiest way to explain the difference is that the first model looks like an actual vintage field watch, whereas the second one resembles what it would have looked like when new back in the late ’60s. Adding to the charm of both watches are the straps.
Praesidus offers both watches on either a brown leather strap or a green military-style canvas strap. There is no going wrong with either. I happen to love the look of field watches on canvas straps, as they emphasize the practical use of these classic timepieces.
A great modern take on the classic field watch
Hidden behind the closed case back is the Miyota 9039 caliber. This automatic movement is a great, reliable pick for an affordable field watch like this. It operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, has 24 jewels, and offers a 42-hour power reserve.
Additionally, the caliber provides an accuracy of -10/+30 seconds per day. What’s more important than the official numbers is the practicality. Overall, we know these calibers tend to run more accurately than this range suggests.
All in all, the Praesidus Jungle Field Automatic 38 offers the same vintage charm but now with a more modern case size, and I’m sure many fans will be delighted to hear that. It only leaves picking between the two models, which both come in at US$550.
For that money, you get a nicely proportioned field watch that makes for a slim and comfortable daily wearer. It will also be ready to accompany you on any outdoor adventures that you might have planned, as a proper field watch should. Because of this, I do not doubt that the Praesidus Jungle Field will remain the brand’s biggest seller.
