The Terra Nova is Bremont’s idea of a contemporary field watch. The Bremont Terra Nova 40.5 Jumping Hour Aventurine takes that concept a few steps further. Hell, it takes the idea of a field watch and transports it to a much more festive place than the trenches where the concept originated. The latest addition to the Terra Nova line, with its frosted steel case and sparkling aventurine dial, sure is a funky party piece. It’s a watch that shines in the VIP section of the club because it’s an exclusive LE of just 50 pieces. The good thing is that, thanks to its sturdy heritage, it can easily withstand the rigors of the party scene; tough times on the dancefloor and a couple of spilled drops of the poison of your choice won’t do it any harm.

You can’t deny it: with the new Terra Nova 40.5 Jumping Hour Aventurine, Bremont shows guts to take the field watch into a completely new territory. The 50-piece limited edition features a deep blue aventurine dial inside a frosted 904L steel case affixed to a blue leather strap. Notwithstanding the exuberant, albeit somewhat flashy, character of the model, the watch not only talks the talk, but it also walks the walk. This Terra Nova still embodies the durable and high-performance standards you can expect from a robust field watch. It’s water resistant to 100 meters, and although a jump-hour watch requires some mental adjustment, there is plenty of contrast to clearly display the time by day. There’s even glowing Super-LumiNova to show it at night — well, the hours and seconds, anyway…

Let’s get this party started with the Bremont Terra Nova 40.5 Jumping Hour Aventurine

The Terra Nova 40.5 Jumping Hour Aventurine follows the black-dial steel version that debuted during Watches and Wonders earlier this year. That was already a funky watch, but the aventurine-dial LE is even groovier.

I have no idea about you, but many people love aventurine glass for its depth and shimmer. Since there are numerous watches available with just such a dial, there must be a market for sparkling timepieces. Combining the material with a watch that started its career as a field watch is original. A dress watch with an aventurine dial is way more obvious. Each dial of the 50-piece run of the Terra Nova 40.5 Jumping Hour Aventurine is precision-cut with diamond tools and then patiently polished to a bright, lustrous finish. After that, the dial is mounted onto a metal backing plate for added strength and stability.

Frosty steel

Bremont thought an aventurine dial alone wouldn’t cut it. That’s why the brand from the picturesque English town of Henley-on-Thames thought it would be a good idea to pair it with a frosted 904L steel case. The specialized surface treatment creates a shimmering radiance. You could say the frosting has the effect of countless tiny, diamond-like facets glistening against a metal background. If you always liked Audemars Piguet’s frosted gold cases but couldn’t find the funding, this might be the watch for you.

Logically, this brings us to the price of the Terra Nova 40.5 Jumping Hour Aventurine. It’s €10,750. That’s a number you might not associate with a steel field watch. But with the frosted treatment and the aventurine dial, this watch is now in a different league. What league? Well, that’s a league of its own, as a jump-hour field watch with all kinds of lustrous parts is something new. I must say, the contemporary form accentuates the Terra Nova’s case geometry and complements it.

Partnership power

Underneath the flashy yet highly readable dial of the new Jumping Hour Aventurine model beats the Bremont BC634. This is an automatic caliber developed with Sellita under an exclusive two-year partnership. It offers a 56-hour power reserve and features a high-torque jump-hour mechanism. The torque is needed to deliver an instantaneous hour change in less than one-tenth of a second. Along with this complication, the movement provides a scrolling minute display and central seconds.

Now tell me, what do you think of the new Bremont Terra Nova 40.5 Jumping Hour Aventurine? Would you wear the audacious take on the field watch theme with your “gala uniform” to a fancy party? You can let me know in the comments section.
