Introducing: The Monochrome Montre De Souscription 5 — Angelus Chronographe Tachymètre
Our friends over at Monochrome are on a roll. Today, the team releases another watch in their line of Montres de Souscription. Introducing the Montre de Souscription 5, the Angelus Chronograph Tachymètre in steel with a golden dial.
This latest offering comes quickly after the Montre de Souscription 4, which was a Habring² with a dead-seconds complication. With that watch having sold out, expectations are naturally high for the fifth in line, the Angelus Chronograph Tachymètre. Monochrome and Angelus will release a maximum of 20 pieces, available for preorder over the coming 10 days. Let’s have a closer look!
The Monochrome × Angelus Chronographe Tachymètre
If you follow my writing, you may know that I am a massive admirer of the Angelus Chronographe Télémètre. The watch was one of my favorites of 2025 for a reason. I adore the compact form factor, authentic vintage styling, and the beautiful monopusher caliber inside. I spent some time with the salmon-dial variant and instantly fell in love.
So, what could the folks at Monochrome possibly do to improve upon such a great chronograph? Well, for starters, you might have noticed that they changed the watch’s name. “Chronographe Télémètre” has become “Chronographe Tachymètre.” As the name suggests, you now get a tachymeter, inspired by Monochrome’s love of cars and racing, snailing around the dial twice. This double row looks possibly even cooler than the original single telemeter scale.
Additionally, this version pairs a steel case with a gold-plated dial, a first for the model. Monochrome opted for a pale 2N gold, resulting in a subtle touch that pushes the online watch publication beyond its usual monochromatic designs.
Angelus Chronographe Tachymètre specifications
This latest Monochrome Montre de Souscription 5 by Angelus comes in the original Angelus 37mm case. It has a 9.25mm total thickness, putting this firmly in dress-watch territory, size-wise. I often describe watches around this size as neutral. They tend not to wear large or small, and they tend to fit most wrists well. As always, this is subject to heated debate, of course.
The caliber inside is something special. For starters, it’s a monopusher chronograph, which is already a bit of a rarity. The movement traces its roots to a collaboration between François-Paul Journe, Vianney Halter, and Denis Flageolet, named THA (Techniques Horlogères Appliquées). One of their creations, caliber 045MC, powered the Collection Privée Cartier Paris Tortue Monopoussoir. La Joux-Perret acquired the rights to the design, and the company now manufactures this movement under the moniker A5000.
Caliber A5000 has a 3Hz frequency and offers a 42-hour power reserve. Unlike basically all modern ébauche chronograph calibers, this one looks stunning. You can admire the inner workings in their full glory, with all parts beautifully finished and most of them coated in 3N gold.
The Souscription scheme
Monochrome and Angelus will offer a maximum of 20 pieces, available on a preorder basis. A non-refundable deposit of €5,000 secures your spot in the production cue. A further €13,500 is due upon delivery, bringing the price to €18,500 before taxes, which is in line with the serial-production models.
Preorders are open now via the Monochrome Shop. The ordering window will remain open until February 8th or until all 20 watches are spoken for.
