Introducing: The New Urwerk UR-150 Blue Scorpion
Last October, Urwerk revealed the new UR-150 line. The Scorpion Titan and Scorpion Dark were immediately recognizable as Urwerk creations. Certain traits, including satellite hours and retrograde minutes, were all present on the initial pieces. Now, nearly a year later, the new UR-150 Blue Scorpion becomes the next model in the collection.
Last week, during Geneva Watch Days 2025, we had the opportunity to visit Urwerk in the brand’s old-town workshop. This year, the walk wasn’t quite so warm, and Dave managed to choose a shorter, less uphill route. As a result, we arrived relaxed and ready to view the innovative company’s latest release, the UR-150 Blue Scorpion.
The Urwerk UR-150 Blue Scorpion
Urwerk’s newest piece is instantly familiar if last year’s titanium references are still fresh in mind. This time around, the watch trades the lightweight material for sandblasted stainless steel. Dimensionally, the watch retains the same footprint with its 42.49mm diameter and 52.31mm lug-to-lug. A circular domed sapphire crystal contributes to a 14.79mm thickness.
Regarding other specifications, the UR-150 Blue Scorpion has a 30m water resistance rating, which means that this futuristic-looking watch can at least withstand heavy rain. An adjustable blue rubber strap with an integrated push-button butterfly clasp is included.
A closer look at the dial
Admirers of the typical Urwerk aesthetic will be pleased to see that the UR-150 Blue Scorpion looks the part. The watch features an open-worked dial with blue atomic layer deposition (ALD) and a bright yellow minute pointer. This centrally mounted indicator traverses a 240° retrograde arc. Within the hand, one of three numbered satellite dials shows the current hour. A crown at the top of the case is used to wind the watch and adjust the time. If you’ve never watched a video of an Urwerk at 59 past the hour, it’s a worthwhile idea. The hand snaps back to zero, and the satellite discs spin instantaneously as the hours change.
Loads of case details
The new UR-150 Blue Scorpion has blue ALD-treated screw heads on the top of its case, with the lower-left one depicting the Urwerk logo. The case top is decorated with concentric grooves, which is a difference compared to last year’s titanium models. On the wrist, this makes the watch appear somewhat smaller. Adorning the case sides are vertical grooves that provide grip when winding the watch.
The automatic Urwerk UR-50.01 inside
Stainless steel isn’t the only material in play on the UR-150 Blue Scorpion case. The case back is Grade 5 titanium and is held by four cross-headed screws that fasten to the blue heads on the case surface. In the center, a sapphire display reveals a blue ALD-coated rotor with twin counterbalancing turbines. A blue ring with perlage finishing surrounds the rotor assembly. The automatic UR-50.01 sits below, providing 43 hours of power reserve and beating at 28,800vph.
50 pieces of the UR-150 Blue Scorpion
Like the initial Scorpion, the UR-150 Blue Scorpion is a limited edition of 50 pieces. With a price of CHF 90,000 (excluding taxes), the watch is slightly more expensive than the titanium versions. Perhaps that’s slightly surprising, but I tend to believe that the intended audience won’t quibble about several thousand francs. From my perspective, the watch is distinctive and attractive. I like the lighter case color that the steel brings along with the added heft. It’s a touch long for my wrist, but for those who can pull it (and the price tag) off, the Urwerk UR-150 Blue Scorpion should prove to be an exciting piece within a collection.
