Introducing: The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Automatic 36mm Alta Rosa
Parmigiani Fleurier keeps unveiling new versions of existing watches that feel fresh and different. It’s a remarkable phenomenon that proves how well the brand chooses its dial colors across the different models. The latest addition to the Tonda PF Automatic lineup is the new Alta Rosa variant. While a pink dial is not new to the Tonda PF line as a whole, this is the first stainless steel 36mm variant with a light dial. It makes this Tonda PF a welcome addition to the lineup that will appeal to both men and women. Let’s find out more.
It’s been only a few months since I had the pleasure of reviewing the stunning Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante Arctic Rose. The watch has a fun, technically ingenious countdown timer complication and is a pleasure to wear and use. But my excitement was mainly due to Parmigiani having combined that functionality with the arctic-pink dial. This light dial once again showed how well Parmigiani Fleurier chooses its colors. This is clearly evident through the brand’s Tonda PF and Toric collections. It has become just as crucial to the concept of the watches as the minimalist dial designs and the signature knurled bezels. For the new Tonda PF Automatic, Parmigiani chose a slightly brighter pink that creates another standout model in the lineup.
The story of the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Automatic Alta Rosa
To my surprise, Parmigiani had not released a light-dial variant of its 36mm Tonda PF Automatic in all stainless steel (except for the platinum bezel). Until now, only the two-tone (rose gold and steel) version of the smaller Tonda PF has been available with a White Citrine dial. It was part of a trio of Tonda PF Automatic models that Daan reviewed, and the dial is a unique shade of white featuring a tiny hint of yellow. But other than that, there was no stainless steel version with a lighter dial until now. The available options were Stone Blue, Sand Grey, and Warm Grey. That last variant also has baguette-cut diamond indexes rather than the 18K gold rhodium-plated hour markers on the two other models.
This makes the new Alta Rosa model a welcome addition to the lineup. But it’s not just about a lighter color or pink necessarily. I think the uncommon hues that Parmigiani Fleurier picks for its dials are undoubtedly the best. I perfectly understand that they are not necessarily for everyone, which is why the brand offers more standard gray and blue dials. But the excitement for me is the dial colors we don’t often see with other brands. They also add another dimension to the Tonda PF concept, making it even better.
The details of the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Automatic Alta Rosa
Let’s talk details. The Tonda PF Automatic has a 36.1mm stainless steel case with an 8.6mm profile and a 41mm lug-to-lug. This smaller Tonda PF’s dimensions make it more versatile than the 40mm Tonda PF Micro-Rotor. If you have read reviews of the latter, you will know that it wears larger due to the wide bracelet. It adds quite a bit of visual mass to the overall aesthetic, making it a watch for people with bigger wrists. The Tonda PF Automatic, on the other hand, is the perfect option for people who love a slightly smaller watch, as Daan also explained in his review of the trio of 36mm models.
I am in the fortunate position of being able to wear both sizes without any problems. But simply due to personal preferences, at this point in time, I might even choose the smaller of the two options for its visual presence. Parmigiani Fleurier tops the 36mm stainless steel case with a knurled platinum bezel that adds both heft and character. Within the case lies the lively pink, or Alta Rosa, Grain d’Orge hand-guilloché dial. Its minimalist design features a stylish minute track on the periphery and 18K gold rhodium-plated hour markers, with the brand’s applied logo as the only decorative element. Hovering over the dial are the delta-shaped hands, which add an extra touch of character to the overall design.
The PF770 movement
If you turn the watch around, you will see the in-house PF770 caliber. This automatic movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, features 29 jewels, and offers a 60-hour power reserve. The caliber comprises 179 parts and is only 3.9mm thick, ensuring the watch’s overall profile is elegantly slim. For visual brilliance, the caliber gets a 22K skeletonized rose gold rotor featuring polished and sandblasted surfaces. Additionally, the caliber’s bridges are decorated with Geneva stripes and beveled edges, making it a joy to view through the case back’s sapphire display.
Completing the watch is the beautiful integrated bracelet, which features a mix of brushed and polished surfaces. On top of that, it tapers elegantly and has a nicely concealed, flush-mounted clasp. The bracelet finishes the look in style and ensures the watch is a joy to wear. From previous experiences, I can say that the Tonda PF models all wear super comfortably. The watches all have a nice heft, giving the feeling of a proper luxury timepiece, with well-designed cases and bracelets that make them a joy on the wrist.
Final thoughts on the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Automatic 36mm Alta Rosa
Overall, this is a clever addition to the Parmigiani catalog that will attract fans of lighter dials. Of all the different dial colors available for the stainless steel Tonda PF models, this is right up there for me with the Tonda PF Micro-Rotor No Date Golden Siena and the Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante Arctic Rose I mentioned before. But this is certainly my new favorite pick from the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Automatic lineup, and it costs €24,200. This watch is more proof that Parmigiani does dial colors extremely well — the best of all high-end luxury brands, if you ask me. I can’t wait to see where the brand takes the Tonda PF next!
