What’s harder, finding the perfect summer destination or summer watch? Thanks to MeisterSinger and Joalharia Ferreira Marques, a watch and jewelry store in Lisbon, you can stop hurting your brain. The German watch brand and Portuguese retailer launch the MeisterSinger × Farreira Marques Edition Elétrico 28 (€2,560), a bright tribute to Lisbon’s famous yellow tram. This watch gives you a good reason to travel to Lisbon and pick up this sunny limited edition of just 28.
Introducing the bright and sunny MeisterSinger × Farreira Marques Edition Elétrico 28
One of Lisbon’s main tourist attractions is a tram. Well, it’s not just any tram; it’s the historical bright yellow Tram 28. This tiny tram winds its way through the city’s steep, narrow streets, serving as a means of getting from A to B, enjoying scenic viewpoints, and experiencing the heart of the historic old town at a slow, steady pace. The tram and MeisterSinger share that steady pace. The watch only has one hand, making you guess the minutes and not care about the seconds. The tram, like the watch, is not in any hurry.
All aboard!
Suppose you want to buy the MeisterSinger × Farreira Marques Edition Elétrico 28. In that case, you’d better get off at the closest tram stop near the Praça D. Pedro IV (Rossio) 7/9 shop because that’s the only store carrying the individually numbered watch. Its dial reflects the tram’s striking yellow color and subtle red highlights — a nod to the vintage vehicle’s interior design. The dial is also very summery and looks bright and fresh. So even if you’re not into slow-moving historical trams, the watch could still be the one for you. Hovering above the dial is a sleek black needle-shaped hand, typical of MeisterSinger watches. It glides around the dial once every 12 hours. There’s also a date window at 6 o’clock.
The 40mm steel case is based on MeisterSinger’s classic and minimalist №03 model, featuring a transparent case back that reveals the reliable Swiss-made automatic SW200 movement. There’s also a finely detailed illustration of Tram 28 and the watch’s unique edition number on the case back.
Portuguese flavor
The Elétrico 28 comes on a gray suede leather strap, which is a nod to Lisbon’s cobblestone streets and the tram’s metal details. Another very Portuguese element is the additional handmade strap made of 100% Portuguese cork. Did you know that Portugal is the world’s leading producer and exporter of cork, contributing over 60% of global exports?
The watch results from a close collaboration between Münster-based MeisterSinger and Joalharia Farreira Marques, a long-established jeweler in Lisbon’s city center. Visiting the store, with its large awnings, ornate ironwork, and stained-glass windows, is quite an experience. The place is so distinct and photogenic that it was used as a filming location for the 1969 James Bond movie On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
What to do in lovely Lisbon after buying your MeisterSinger × Farreira Marques Edition Elétrico 28 Edition
After taking a ride on Tram 28 and purchasing your Edition Elétrico 28 at Joalharia Ferreira Marques at Praça D. Pedro IV 7/9, it’s a 25-minute casual walk to Magnolia, a wine bar and bistro on Praça das Flores 43, a happening square in Principe Real. There, you can sit on the photogenic terrace in front of the cafe, overlooking the small but charming Jardim Fialho de Almeida, and enjoy a glass of local natural wine while appreciating the new watch on your wrist. Buying a watch satisfies the mind but also makes you work up a bit of an appetite. Luckily, you can stay right where you are and enjoy the wonderful bites Magnolia serves — try the fish bun!
A short after-dinner stroll will take you to the Hotel das Amoreiras. Have a nightcap in the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel bar, and after that, enjoy the comfort of your not-too-big but very elegant room. Like MeisterSinger, Hotel das Amoreiras, overlooking the Jardim das Amoreiras, is privately owned, translating into excellent service and a personal touch.
After breakfast in the shade on the patio, please don’t forget to pick up a small gift for the people back home. Only 140 meters from the hotel, at Travessa Águas Livres 11, you can find Casa Bohemia Algarve. This little store, founded by Katia Coelho seven years ago, has a fantastic collection of artisanal products from the Algarve. Tip: Praia is a handmade aromatic candle that, once lit, will instantly take you back to the beach even during a cold winter’s night.
