Tissot Adds One Damascus Steel PRX And Two Titanium Versions To The Lineup
The Tissot PRX is one of the watch industry’s biggest success stories of the past few years. However, at this point, you might wonder how the brand can continue to surprise us with new PRX models. We have seen a string of new dials, collaborative efforts, and smaller sizes, creating an extensive collection. However, Tissot was not yet done with the PRX. The three newest versions utilize new materials, with two in titanium and another in Damascus steel. These three watches are also available in a smaller 38mm size, which is even more exciting.
As some of you might know, I own a black-dial Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 that I adore. I don’t wear it as often as I used to, but every time I pick it up and put it on my wrist, it immediately reminds me of its brilliance. Over time, Tissot expanded the PRX collection with a wide variety of new models. From the smaller 35mm versions to chronographs and new dial variations, it has been interesting to see how the collection has grown. However, as time progressed, the surprise factor also faded with each new release. It seems like Tissot is on to something with these three new ones, though. The addition of two titanium variants is particularly intriguing. Add the new 38mm size, and I am all ears!
The Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 Titanium
Let’s kick things off with the two new titanium models. These watches feature a lightweight 38mm case with a 10.98mm thickness. This makes them a bit smaller but ever so slightly thicker than 40 × 10.9mm stainless steel versions. Tissot matched the new case with a brushed titanium bracelet, bringing the total weight to 84 grams. The slightly darker look of titanium suits the PRX very well and also subtly changes its presence.
For now, Tissot is introducing two dial options for the titanium PRX. The first, pictured here, is an anthracite-colored one featuring the familiar waffle pattern and rose-gold-colored hands, indexes, and a matching date frame. Other than the rose-tone elements, the anthracite dial and titanium provide a monochromatic look that we haven’t seen before from the PRX. The second model, which, strangely, Tissot did not provide pictures of, features a dark blue dial with a waffle pattern and nickel-plated hands and markers. That version is more in line with its stainless steel counterpart and has a similar dial color. But thanks to the slightly darker hue and lightweight properties of titanium, it will feel like a very different watch on the wrist.
The familiar Powermatic 80 caliber inside
Inside the cases of these watches, you will find the Swatch Group’s Powermatic 80. This automatic movement operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour, has 23 jewels, and offers 80 hours of power reserve. It also features an antimagnetic Nivachron hairspring and hacking seconds. As we have come to know, the caliber is visible through the sapphire display in the case back.
The two new titanium PRX versions each cost €875, which makes them only €100 more expensive than the 40mm stainless steel models. It’s fantastic to see Tissot making use of titanium, and I think these two watches are incredibly smart additions to the lineup. I especially love the variant with the anthracite dial, as it offers a fresh and distinct look for the titanium PRX. If I were ever tempted to add another Tissot PRX to my collection, this would be the one for me!
The Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 Damascus
But that is not where it ends. Tissot is introducing another new version of its successful PRX, this time in Damascus steel. This case has the same 38mm diameter and 10.98mm profile as the titanium variants. The particularly cool thing is that it matches a Damascus steel dial, which truly emphasizes the metal’s distinct look. Its patterned presence is unlike any other material used in watchmaking. By creating both the case and the dial from this metal, Tissot has given the PRX a unique, impactful appearance.
Suspended above the Damascus steel dial are nickel-plated hour and minute hands and a black seconds hand. Additionally, the black nickel indexes and black minute/seconds track are nice touches. Completing the package is a black integrated leather strap that keeps the total weight at only 75 grams, making this a relatively light watch. The strap also ensures that this PRX will sit comfortably on the wrist.
Same caliber inside, different look outside
As with the titanium models, the case back’s sapphire display provides a clear view of the Powermatic 80 movement. Of course, the caliber’s specs and details are the same here. As you may have noticed in the picture above, the strap features quick-release pins, which are also present on the bracelet of the titanium versions. This makes changing up the look and presence of the three new PRX models an easy and fun experience. The new Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 Damascus costs €1,075, which, considering the uncommon material, is a very reasonable price.
Final thoughts on the new Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 models in titanium and Damascus steel
The three new PRX variants come at precisely the right time. Just when we thought it would be challenging for Tissot to introduce more remarkable PRX models, the brand surprised us with these. They add a new dimension to the PRX line, complementing the stainless steel and forged carbon options. As you may have guessed, I can’t wait to take the gray-dial titanium one for a spin when I get the chance. Until then, I’ll say that these three clever releases clearly prove that the PRX success story is not over yet!
