In this video, we go hands-on with Omega’s recently released Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon. We covered it in-depth here, but also decided to shoot a video with this new ceramic Speedmaster.

Inspired by Apollo 8
In this video, I went through the background story with NASA (Apollo 8). This is important, as it was the inspiration for Omega to “go gray” with the ceramic Speedmaster. You will also see how it looks on the wrist from different angles and get a closer look at its new caliber 3869. This 3861-based movement features laser ablation on the bridges to mimic the Moon’s surface.
Enjoy the video! For an overview of the Omega Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon specifications, see the table below.
Gray anodized aluminum, skeletonized, with grayed, diamond-polished, and beveled hour indexes and dots at 12H with Super-LumiNova (green emission), two gray chronograph registers with concentric graining, and skeletonized sub-seconds register
I’m in the market for a Speedy this year, but I have zero aspirations for this featured watch. In fact, I think it’s ugly. That dial looks hideous in my opinion. Maybe they’re running out of ideas 💡 YMMV, of course.
Interesting. As Tarartrat2112 and Twocounter demonstrate, “à chacun son goût”: two diametrically opposed opinions. There’s something out there for everyone, just not always the same thing. 🙂
You’re absolutely correct WATCHWALLY. We all have our own preferences. That’s why it’s so important to buy what you like and to ignore the naysayers. God knows that if everyone liked the same things, then life would become boring, quickly. People’s opinions on watches are like people’s opinions on beauty. It’s all in the eyes of the beholder. I like brunettes. Thanks for chiming in. Cheers 🍻
I was able to put this new GSotM on my wrist (thanks Nacho!) and it did not take long for it to grow on me. As you point out, RJ, there are plenty of hidden gems as you look closer and longer at each side of this Moon!
Of the latest new Speedy references, this would be my next purchase…If it weren’t so damn expensive! 😩
Nobody has so far (not only here, but in any review) remarked upon the extraordinarily long pinion of the 9 o’clock subdial. Especially when the dial is viewed at a 45 degree angle, that tall pinion stands all by itself and looks somewhat out of place in my humble opinion. (I wonder whether they could have shortened it and placed the attached hand closer to the subdial surface?
Too Big for my 15,5 cms wrist, even if it wears smaller. And also very expensive. Still, to me it’s the best looking speedy I can think of, I would love to be able to wear one.
