Three different straps to offer a brand new look and feel for your watch

For a long time, we at Fratello have wanted to offer our community high-quality watch accessories with a stylish look and feel. We’re happy to announce that our first line of signature straps is available now. Head over to the Fratello Shop to make sure you don’t miss our first drop!

We wanted to start with the essential watch accessory — the strap — so that’s exactly what we did. We made a high-quality leather strap, or to be more exact, we made three. Handmade in Europe, we are pleased to offer three distinct colors and two different types of leather. The new Fratello signature straps will offer a great way for watch lovers to make their watches more personal. Available now in our Fratello Shop.

Colors and materials

Our first Fratello straps are available in nubuck and Baranil leather. Nubuck is a highly-durable leather that comes from the outer layer of the hide. The top surface receives a light sanding, giving it a smooth velvet-like. Our nubuck straps are available in matte gray and cognac brown, two shades that complement most dial colors.

Baranil is a more traditional leather material that undergoes a double-tanning process. After that, it is treated with mineral, vegetable, and animal oils, leaving you with a strap that has a touch more shine than the nubuck. Our black Baranil strap works especially well on a yellow gold watch, such as the Rolex Day-Date pictured above.

The straps are all priced at €129 each. For now, they are available with a 20mm width, tapering to 16mm at the buckle. All straps will come with quick-release spring bars for toolless strap changes on the fly.

Hello, looking good. Which one would better “break-in” – the Baranil or Nubuck? In what size are the straps coming? Are they one size or can I choose the size? I have pretty small wrist, usually wear 120×70, or 115×80. Regards, Robert

  Hey Robert! The straps are 115×75. I’m not entirely sure what you mean by “break-in” — I’ve worn both straps extensively, both are comfortable and adapt to your wrist over time. The Baranil probably has a bit more flex from the get-go. What’s your wrist size? For reference: My wrist size is 16.5cm.

    Timo, thanks for the reply. 115×75 is fine with me. My wrist size is similar to yours. So I need to decide on the colour (black or grey) and material. I’m looking for a strap for my IWC Spitfire to replace the original Green NATO strap to wear it as my daily watch. Any idea which one would suite better?

      Really digging that IWC! I think it comes down to what kind of look you want. Going with the black Baranil might look a bit more refined, whereas the cognac Nubuck will give it a more casual feel. It still does look refined though: I’m wearing my Reverso on the cognac Nubuck and it’s a great match. The black one is only available as Baranil, the cognac and grey versions on the other hand only as Nubuck btw.
      
      Grey vs black… personally, I think I would go black. Keep in mind though that grey offers more versatility when combining with other leathers. I don’t mind wearing a grey strap with a brown belt/shoes or black belt/shoes. I wouldn’t wear a black strap with brown belt/shoes though.

Just wondering what the reference number and the year is for the Rolex Datejust with the white dial in the first picture at the top of the article. What kind of dial is that? Sorry, I’m sure this was mentioned before in one of the many hundreds of previous articles. Many thanks.

  Hi!
  That’s a Ref. 16220 with a silver Tapestry dial and steel engine-turned bezel. I don’t know the specific year of this one, but it was introduced in 1988 and in production until well into the 2000s. The last gen to feature that bezel style and the first to come with a sapphire crystal. You can find similar executions with acrylic crystals under the 16030 reference. Hope that helps!

    Wow! Thanks, Thomas. That was quick. On C24, both references are quite pricey at the moment — around the same price as a basic, brand new Datejust, ref 126200, from the current Rolex catalog. The 16030 looks to have more of what I’m looking for — namely a pre-1985 version not using 904L steel. I’ll watch for a deep price correction and maybe pick one up. Thanks for the starting point.
