Hublot has gotten a pretty bad rap in recent times. The brand is often dismissed as the butt of online commentators’ jokes, but we don’t feel this is entirely fair, so in today’s episode, we’re looking at the other side of things. RJ, Thomas, and Nacho have each whipped up three reasons why you should buy a Hublot or, rather, why one might consider buying one of the brand’s watches. Before that, we briefly review the brand’s history, from its inception in 1980 by Italian watchmaker Carlo Crocco to the Jean-Claude Biver chapter and the current stewardship of (former Zenith CEO) Julien Tornare. So, if you want to hear why we feel Hublot deserves more love than it gets, tune in to this week’s episode. But now, it’s time for a wrist check!

Wrist check

You guessed it! The VPC Type 37HW is still (just about) the only watch you’ll find on Thomas’s wrist these days. The man is a strong ambassador for his brand, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Grand Seiko ref. SBGR023 on wrist, arms crossed

Up next, we have RJ, who is wearing a Grand Seiko ref. SBGR023. This double-signed reference features a 37mm case and glossy black dial and has aged rather well. It’s back from service with a fresh bezel and ready for plenty of time on the wrist. The only question is: how long will RJ wear it before returning to gold?

And finally, Nacho is wearing his beloved Seiko 7002 from 1993. This neo-vintage charmer certainly looks the part of a well-worn dive watch. And though the originality of its wear and tear remains somewhat questionable, it’s still a lovely thing to look at. If you want to read the full story on this one, check out Nacho’s first-ever article on Fratello.

Fratello Talks: Why You Should Buy A Hublot

Today, on Fratello Talks, we’re not saying you must buy a Hublot. We’re just looking at some reasons one might consider giving the brand a chance. Like many of you, we are aware of the many jokes and extensive commentary made at the brand’s expense, but today, we cast prejudice aside and consider the positives. You’ll have to tune in to find out more, but in the meantime, we’d love to hear your thoughts. How do you feel about Hublot? Do you appreciate the brand’s horological merits and bold design variety? Or does its space-age aesthetic push things beyond your comfort zone? Are there any models that particularly resonate with you?

Let us know in the comments below. And be sure to tune in next week for a new episode of Fratello Talks, in which a special guest joins us to discuss our latest limited-edition watch. That one will be coming your way later than usual, at 18:00 CEST on Thursday, June 26th.
