Timekeeping is a key element in most sports disciplines, so it should come as no surprise that the world of horology has long-standing ties to sports. In today’s episode of Fratello Talks, we look at that link and discuss the presence and influence of watch brands in sports. Nacho is joined by RJ and Lex, who run through some of their most memorable watch brand/sport pairings. They also look at sponsored athletes and teams, official timekeepers, and the many other ways the watch world has made itself present in sports. Finally, they consider some hypothetical pairings that they would like to see. But, as always, we kick off the match with a wrist check.

First up is RJ, who is not exactly wearing the sportiest of watches, though he is keeping it “on-brand”; it’s the Breguet Classique Souscription 2025. The brand is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year, and this was the first major release to mark the occasion. He’s been looking forward to getting his hands on this one since its announcement in April. Keep an eye on the site for an upcoming hands-on review.

Lex is wearing something sportier in the shape of the new Chronoswiss Pulse One Sand. This titanium integrated-bracelet watch combines some of the brand’s best-known features (oversized onion crowns, coin-edge bezels, and regulator-style dials) with a modern twist. Check out the hands-on review to read his thoughts on this remarkable timepiece.

Nacho is wearing an even sportier watch, his Citizen Promaster Aqualand JP2000-08E. Introduced in 1985, this classic diver was the first to feature an integrated depth sensor. Leaning into its dive watch look, our managing editor has combined it with a 24mm shark mesh bracelet.

Everyone knows at least a handful of these partnerships — Rolex and Wimbledon, TAG Heuer and Formula 1, Tissot and the Tour de France, Tudor and cycling, Hublot and the UEFA World Cup, Panerai and the Luna Rossa sailing team, Omega and the Olympic Games… the list goes on. In today’s episode of Fratello Talks, we discuss watch brands’ involvement in sports. We also delve into the world of brand ambassadors, official timing partners, and more. We wrap things up by proposing some potential watch brand/sport combinations that we think have a lot of potential.
