Hot Take: The Nezumi Corbeau — Pan Am Edition
Today, we’re looking at the Nezumi Corbeau — Pan Am Edition. The Stockholm-based brand creates crowd-pleasing watches at even more likable prices. Plus, with quartz movements inside some pieces, they work well as grab-and-go options.
We read plenty of comments on Fratello about the escalating prices of new watches. Therefore, it’s nice to cover a reasonable new release occasionally. Nezumi competes in this market and, from our perspective, does it successfully. The Swedish brand assembles its watches in Germany and uses Japanese movements. It’s a nice combination that resonates with buyers looking for an affordable, high-quality option. Now there’s the new Corbeau — Pan Am Edition, a cool new chronograph with one of air travel’s most famous logos on the dial.
The Nezumi Corbeau — Pan Am Edition
Nezumi isn’t new to collaborations. The brand previously worked with carmaker RUF, but today’s Corbeau — Pan Am Edition leaves the streets for the skies. It’s hard to believe that Pan Am last flew in 1991, but the logo remains one of the most famous in history. A TV show by the same name and retro merchandise with the blue emblem have helped. Now there’s a new limited-edition watch.
The latest Corbeau is a 40mm by 47mm stainless steel chronograph with a 12.75mm thickness, including a double-domed sapphire crystal with an antireflective coating. It comes standard with two Juno straps, one in black and one in blue, made from recycled apple pomace. Regarding versatility, the chronograph has a 50m water resistance rating.
The case is fully brushed and has a signed push-pull crown. A set of circular pump pushers operates the chronograph functions. From the side, the view is clean and shows sculpted lugs that help the watch conform to the wrist.
A clean dial with a famous logo
Like other Nezumi chronographs, the Corbeau — Pam Am Edition has a sandwich dial. The main portion is matte black with printed Super-LumiNova X1 Arabic numerals. Functionally, there are two off-white sub-dials. One is a 60-minute totalizer, and the other serves as a 24-hour indicator. The left sub-dial is where the collaboration is visible. The classic airline’s logo inhabits the running seconds display. Large, luminous hour and minute hands join a blue arrow-tipped luminous central chronograph seconds counter. Finally, the watch has a 120-click, unidirectional external bezel with a 12-hour scale.
Using the meca-quartz Seiko VK63
The screw-in case back is another exciting detail on the Corbeau — Pan Am Edition. It is embossed with the airline’s emblem and the Nezumi name. It features shotblasted and brushed surfaces. As expected, the watch uses the Seiko VK63 meca-quartz movement. This fan-favorite is known for a mechanical feel despite running under battery power. Battery life is typically around three years.
Availability and pricing
Nezumi is known for affordability, and the Corbeau — Pan Am Edition does not disappoint. It costs €464 (ex. VAT), comes with a two-year warranty, and will begin arriving on buyers’ doorsteps in July. The catch, however, is that the watch is a limited edition of 200 pieces. Overall, I think it’s a cool piece at an approachable price. Plus, for fans of the golden age of air travel, this should prove popular. If the Corbeau — Pan Am Edition sounds intriguing, head to the brand’s official website for more information and pre-order details.
