Jack Mason has slowly been updating its collection over the past two years. In addition to refining its designs, the Texan brand has significantly improved the quality of its offerings. As a result, JM now has a concise but varied catalog of watches that are great for daily wear. After updating the existing collection with its base models, the brand now extends its Canton lineup with a new version. The Jack Mason Canton Day-Date builds on the popularity of the standard time-and-date model. In addition to offering new functionality, the new Canton Day-Date also features guilloché dials for added visual refinement. It’s time to find out more.

Out of the current model lineup, my favorite Jack Mason watch is probably the Strat-o-Timer GMT. I reviewed the pair of new Strat-o-Timer Titanium Diver GMT models late last year, which gave me a good impression of the series. But the Strat-o-Timer GMT Espresso is a doozy. The ’70s-inspired design, combined with the black and brown tones, makes for a really nice retro GMT. I could easily see myself wearing that every day. With the Canton, Jack Mason offers something completely different. Instead of a sporty series, the Canton is a line of modern all-arounders. I first reviewed the regular Jack Mason Canton two years ago when the brand reintroduced it with an updated design and improved specs. The Canton Day-Date nicely follows that example.

The details of the Jack Mason Canton Day-Date

Let’s start with the specs to get an idea of what the new Canton Day-Date is all about. The three new watches each have a 41mm stainless steel case with a 48mm lug-to-lug and a 12mm profile. Style-wise, it follows the design of the regular Canton, although it is two millimeters larger.

The case offers 150m water resistance and features a 7mm screw-down crown on the right side. Additionally, it has a predominantly brushed finish, polished chamfers, and a polished bezel.

The watch comes fitted with a 20mm Oyster-style bracelet with polished center links and brushed outer ones. In this configuration, the watch has that Rolex Oyster Perpetual-inspired vibe that many fans love. But you can also opt for a seven-row Jubilee-esque bracelet, which immediately changes the overall look to more closely resemble the Rolex Datejust. In all honesty, it applies more to the regular time-and-date version of the Canton, as this new Day-Date version has a different dial configuration.

The dials of the new Jack Mason Canton Day-Date

The big news, of course, is the day-date dial configuration. The new Canton Day-Date models feature a magnified date at 6 o’clock and a day indicator located at 12 o’clock. On top of that, the new dials display a milled guilloché pattern originating from the center pinion and gradually widening toward the rehaut, which holds the minute track.

You can choose a light blue Slate, vibrant blue Lagoon, or dark brown Chocolate dial. The two blue dials feature silver-colored applied markers filled with Super-LumiNova. The chocolate-brown dial has gold-colored lume-filled markers and hands for a warmer overall look.

Under the day indicator, you will find the Jack Mason star, which proudly represents the brand’s Texan roots. On the lower half of the dial sits the model name in italics, as well as two lines of text stating “Automatic” and “Day-Date.” The date window is integrated between the text and the cut-off hour marker. Thankfully, the date magnifier is modest and doesn’t seem to stand out too much. Completing the visage is the modern handset. All three hands are filled with lume for good low-light visibility.

The top-grade Sellita SW240-1

Powering the new Jack Mason Canton Day-Date is the Sellita SW240-1. This 26-jewel automatic movement operates at 28,800 vph and offers a 40-hour power reserve. The brand chose the top-grade version of the caliber, which is adjusted to five positions for an accuracy of ±4 to ±15 seconds per day.

Additionally, the movement features a detailed mix of finishes, blued screws, and a custom rotor with a gold PVD coating. The rotor features a large star representing the Lone Star State, and it also mentions Jack Mason’s Dallas home base. It adds a nice bit of detail to the movement side in case you are not wearing the watch.

Final thoughts on the Jack Mason Canton Day-Date

Overall, the expansion of the Canton lineup makes total sense. The regular Canton is one of Jack Mason’s best-selling watches, so adding a Day-Date version to the series is a clever move. In terms of looks, the new trio follows the aesthetic that we already know. The day display is neatly integrated, and the new guilloché dials offer a more stylish, refined texture than the time-and-date models. As a result, Jack Mason ensured there were plenty of differences between the two models.

The new Jack Mason Canton Day-Date will be available for sale this Friday on the brand’s official website for US$1,849. Though the time-and-date model costs $1,399, considering the Day-Date’s added functionality and guilloché dials, a slightly higher price makes sense. Especially after spending time with the regular Canton, I would expect the quality to be on the same level, which is a proper step up from previous generations. On top of that, the watches look much better than their predecessors. As a result, it will be interesting to see what is next for Jack Mason.
