Introducing: The Seiko 5 Sports Pink Panther Limited Edition SRPM07
For its latest 5 Sports collaboration, Seiko teamed up with MGM to celebrate the Pink Panther. It’s a joyful reminder of the prank-loving cartoon character I got to know through the famous series of movies that began in the 1960s with Peter Sellers as Inspector Jacques Clouseau. Six years after the 1963 premiere of The Pink Panther movie, the animated character received a dedicated cartoon series, which further solidified his fame. Now, 62 years after his silver-screen debut, the Pink Panther is still a beloved character. The sophisticated pink prankster is the star of this new Seiko 5 Sports Pink Panther Limited Edition SRPM07. Let’s find out more!
If you are over 45, you are likely to have seen one of the famous Pink Panther movies. I was amazed to read that the original The Pink Panther film actually debuted in 1963. If you have seen that movie or one of its sequels, you will know that “the Pink Panther” refers to the world’s largest diamond. However, the animated Pink Panther character, the central figure of the fun new Seiko 5 Sports Pink Panther Limited Edition SRPM07, appeared in the title sequence.
The story of the Seiko 5 Sports Pink Panther Limited Edition SRPM07
The story behind the new Seiko 5 Sports Pink Panther Limited Edition SRPM07 is inspired by The Pink Phink. Between his first appearance in The Pink Panther in 1963 and the release of The Pink Panther Show in 1969, the feline gentleman appeared in a series of shorts. The Pink Phink, which was released in December 1964, was the first of these.
In the story, he is repainting the house of an unnamed character, also known as the Little Man, in bright pink. The Little Man wants to paint his house blue, but the Pink Panther thwarts any attempt to give any object or part of the house that color. He mischievously repaints everything pink. The design of the new Seiko 5 Sports SRPM07 reflects this amusing little story. Additionally, the watch comes in a special box inspired by the Little Man’s house. It displays the fun, playful battle between the Pink Panther and the Little Man.
The details of the new Seiko 5 Sports Pink Panther Limited Edition SRPM07
The canvas for this new limited edition is the Seiko 5 Sports SKX series. It features a 38mm stainless steel case with a 12.1mm thickness and a 44.2mm lug-to-lug. For this special edition, the dive bezel contains a black insert with pink numerals and markings, and the bright pink dial matches the pink on the bezel. And if you look closely, you will see the iconic footprints that lead the Little Man to discover the Pink Panther. Lastly, the seconds hand also gets a nice pink touch.
The watch comes with a bright pink NATO-style strap that also features the Pink Panther’s footprints. The tip of the nylon strap features the words “WET PAINT,” as seen in the original animation. The font used for the words matches that of the numerals on the bezel. It highlights the playful character of this limited-edition release.
If you turn the watch around, you will get a glimpse of Seiko’s in-house caliber 4R36. This automatic movement operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a 41-hour power reserve. However, as you can see, it is slightly hidden behind the colorful case back. It features the famous scene in which the Pink Panther camouflages himself against a pink wall. You will also see the watch’s unique LE number engraved on the case back. Seiko will produce a total of 9,999 pieces of the new Seiko 5 Sports Pink Panther Limited Edition SRPM07. The watch will be available starting January 1st, 2026, for €460.
