Today, Patek Philippe has announced the new Patek Philippe Ref. 6301P Grand Sonnerie. In a beautiful video presentation, because of Covid-19, Patek Philippe presented this beautiful platinum 6301. It was an incredibly well done digital presentation, with a few words from Thierry Stern and a product presentation by their Head of Watch of Development, Philip Barat.

The Patek Philippe Ref. 6301P is a new Grand Sonnerie, with a minute repeater and a jumping seconds complication. On the black enamel dial, you will also find two power reserve indicators — one for the movement (72 hours) and one for the sonnerie (24 hours).

What we’ve been shown is a stunning 44.8mm platinum watch. The black enamel dial indicates hours, minutes, (jumping) seconds, and has two power reserve indicators. The dial is made of 18K gold and has received a grand feu black enamel layer. The gold Arabic numerals are applied. Interestingly, the leaf-shaped hands come to life in low light conditions thanks to the presence of Super-LumiNova. It is certainly an interesting fusion of classical style and contemporary functionality.

Crown and slide switch

With the crown, you can wind the movement clockwise and counterclockwise. The counterclockwise mode is to wind the strikework. When you pull out the crown, you can set the time. As you can see, there’s also a pusher on the crown. When this is pressed, the minute repeater will chime. Between the lugs at 6 o’clock, there’s a slide switch. With this switch, you can select your chiming style. Your options? Petite sonnerie, grand sonnerie, and (a meeting-friendly) silent mode.

Caliber GS 36-750 PS IRM

The case back reveals the exquisite hand-wound Patek Philippe GS 36-750 PS IRM movement. Derived from Patek’s caliber 300, also known for being the movement of the Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300, this new GS 36-750 PS IRM consists of 703 parts and measures a 7.5mm in thickness. Half of the movement’s volume is used to store energy for the movement and strikework. Consequently, the case measures 12mm tall on the wrist. Additionally, the minute repeater has three classic gongs. Then there’s the grand sonnerie and petit sonnerie, and of course a jumping seconds mechanism.

Diamond

As you can see in the picture, the platinum case of this Patek Philippe Ref. 6301P also has a diamond set in the case at 12 o’clock. This is a signature for all of Patek’s platinum watches. Normally, these diamonds are set at 6 o’clock. However, thanks to the slide switch, the diamond has relocated to 12 o’clock.
