Exactly two years after the successful launch of the MoonSwatch, Swatch introduces the Mission to the Moonphase. It’s a MoonSwatch Snoopy, in short, as NASA’s “watchdog” is positioned in the upper-right sub-dial. On the battery cover on the case back, there is also Snoopy’s footprint on the Moon. Clever!

MoonSwatch Mission to the Moonphase

Omega × Swatch MoonSwatch Mission to the Moonphase

After the first 11 MoonSwatch models in 2022 and the MoonSwatch Moonshine Gold editions in 2023, Swatch puts the MoonSwatch to work again with this Snoopy edition. Exactly two years after the introduction of the MoonSwatch, this Mission to the Moonphase with Snoopy will be available starting March 26th, 2024.

This MoonSwatch features an all-white color scheme to celebrate the full moon. It’s a non-limited edition that will only be available in stores (no, not online).

The role of Snoopy

This edition is, of course, a wink to the Omega Speedmaster Professional Silver Snoopy Award editions. Snoopy has been NASA’s “watchdog” since 1968, and the Lunar Module of Apollo 10 even carried the name of this famous beagle. The Speedmaster watch played such a crucial role in the safe return of the Apollo 13 astronauts that NASA awarded Omega the Silver Snoopy Award. This is the highest honor that NASA gives to those who played an exceptional role. You can read that full story read here.

MoonSwatch Mission to the Moonphase sub-dial

A moonphase function

A very cool feature of this MoonSwatch Snoopy chronograph is the moonphase indicator at 2 o’clock. As you probably know, a full lunar cycle takes roughly 29.5 days. This is displayed with the special sub-dial containing Snoopy resting on the Moon.

The white MoonSwatch Snoopy

The white MoonSwatch Mission to the Moonphase (reference SO33W700) has a white Velcro strap. All six of the hands are black to give the best contrast against the white dial, and the central hands also have an application of Super-LumiNova for legibility in low-light conditions. The bioceramic bezel even has the dot over 90, just like Omega’s Speedmaster.

Swatch’s MoonSwatch Snoopy — Mission to the Moonphase has (nearly) the same dimensions as its stainless steel counterpart from Omega. It measures 42mm in diameter, 13.75mm in thickness, and 47.3mm from lug to lug.

Price and availability

Like the original 11 MoonSwatch models and the Moonshine Gold editions (also 11 pieces), the Snoopy MoonSwatch Mission to the Moonphase is only available in Swatch boutiques. Only one watch per customer will be made available. The price is set at €315 / US$310.

First thoughts…

I loved the first 11 MoonSwatch editions, and we’ve covered that journey extensively here on Fratello. The concepts behind the MoonSwatch Moonshine Gold editions were perhaps a bit far-fetched, but those watches were also in high demand. This new white MoonSwatch Snoopy is a fun new chapter, and I can’t wait to see it in person. It was frustrating that the MoonSwatch was not available online, but I do get it from a marketing perspective. If all 11 models had been just available online at the touch of a button, it would have been a less exciting journey. Some collectors have traveled the world to buy all of the different versions.
