The AP Royal Oak 15202 is one of my big loves. I was amazed to see Audemars Piguet introducing a new variation on the Royal Oak “Extra-Thin” (or Jumbo, for the die-hards) 15202. A green dial version for the AP House concept boutiques.

A few years ago, AP introduced its AP House, a place where you can feel at home while exploring its collection of watches. Due to the travel restrictions, I haven’t been able to visit one yet (there will be one in The Netherlands I’ve been told), but it is high on my list. I have been a fan of the Royal Oak for over 20 years, especially the 5402ST and its successors all the way up to today’s 15202.

Royal Oak 15202 “Extra-Thin” For the AP House

Aside from the absence of the tapisserie on the dial (more later), this new AP Royal Oak 15202 “Extra-Thin” in green is made of platinum. That might shatter your dreams straight-away, but I can also imagine it makes the watch even more impressive. Especially on the wrist. The case remains the same, a 39mm diameter and a thickness of just 8.1mm. As always, the movement inside is the infamous caliber 2121. It started its life once as a joint-project with a few other haute Horlogerie brands (based on the JLC920), but it is fully manufactured in-house by Audemars Piguet in Le Brassus. A 22ct rotor ensures proper winding of the main spring and offers hours, minutes, and date as functionality. I am thankful this is untouched!

Green Dial Royal Oak 15202

Besides the Royal Oak 15202, there are a few more Royal Oak models that are now available with a green dial. But I first want to focus on the 15202 with this article. As you know, those very first Royal Oak 5402 models already had a “Clous de Paris” or tapisserie dial. Later on, the motif became a bit different — and bigger — only to return to a small variation in 2012. Which is still currently in production as the steel Royal Oak 15202. For the AP Houses, the green smoked dial has no structure or motif but has a beautiful green sunburst pattern.

The applied indexes are made of 18ct white gold and filled with luminescent coating. The applied AP logo is located at 6 o’clock, just like those first 5402ST A-series and the post-2012 Royal Oak 15202 watches. At 12 o’clock there’s the name of the manufacture printed as well as the word “Automatic”. The dial aperture at 3 o’clock is cleverly done. The small slope of the aperture has green tones, while the date disc is black. It is not a disturbing factor at all, on this dial.
