The David Candaux DC6 Wildfire Is A Scorcher On The Wrist!
Whenever I review a genuinely fascinating example of haute horlogerie, I’m constantly reminded that one never stops learning about watches. Yes, these wildly creative pieces make me feel like a neophyte. And so it is whenever I hold a David Candaux creation. The watches look like nothing else, yet they’re pleasingly tactile and meant to be worn. Today, we look at the latest model from the brand, the DC6 Wildfire.
I saw my first David Candaux watch “in the metal” at a Phillips event in London centered on independent watchmakers. It was a brief encounter, but there was something different about these models with their vertically telescoping push-button crowns. While the watches are insanely serious from a technical perspective, not to mention the pricing, a welcoming playfulness accompanies them. Little touches like a strap with a Velcro closure or 50m water resistance make them seem less intimidating to handle. That’s a relative rarity in this ultra-high-end category, and the new DC6 Wildfire carries it forward.

The David Candaux DC6 Wildfire
The latest model from David Candaux is actually a follow-up. In March, the small manufacture released the green-accented DC6 Night Forest to great acclaim. Now, we have a sequel with brighter orange accents. For those who read along here at Fratello, I covered the DC12 MaveriK in 2025. This watch ushered in a smaller 39.5mm case with a simpler display. The DC6 series, however, adds millimeters due to its complexity. As a result, the new Wildfire has a 45.9mm diameter. Still, the 11.29mm thickness is impressive, as it includes sapphire crystals on both sides.
We’ll spend time on the mechanics, but the case is a lovely construction. Unidirectional carbon is employed for the bezel, case back, and mid-case. The lugs, however, use a mix of microblasted, satin-finished, and hand-polished titanium. It’s all very technical but pleasing. The way in which the carbon sits within the insides of the titanium lugs is especially attractive. The watch’s profile also depicts smoothly flowing lugs that hug the wrist despite the case’s large diameter.
The magic crown
A centerpiece, truly, of the DC6 Wildfire is its magic crown. This is a David Candaux hallmark, but it’s oddly functional. A simple push and click frees the crown and allows it to extend vertically. Then, one can wind or pull the crown to a further stop to set the watch. All told, this little wonder consists of 31 components!
An impressive dial
While the crown is a fun and useful party trick, wearers and admirers will spend most of their time looking at the dial. And what a dial it is! On top of it lie sapphire crystals that follow the forms of the underlying mechanics. A hurried glance reveals two orbs and a gauge-like display. Each feature has a separate crystal. The display on the right shows the hour and minutes, with blue and white hands sitting atop an anodized orange sunburst titanium sphere. On the left, the tourbillon balance wheel, tilted at 30°, depicts the running seconds. A power reserve display occupies the top of the dial.
While the displays are incredibly impressive, there’s more to mention. The black carbon bezel has inscriptions for the brand and its location. Inside this, two hand-guilloché plates use the Pointes du Risoux pattern. Stainless steel screws fasten them to the case. Again, for such an exclusive piece, it’s a rare treat to run one’s fingernail over the guilloché surface without being chided!
The titanium 1740 tourbillon movement
The David Candaux caliber 1740 is a lesson in restraint when viewed through the case back’s sapphire display. The brand uses titanium for the mainplate and bridges and finishes them to great effect. You’ll find anglage, straight graining, pearling, and a lovely Côtes du Solliat pattern. Gold indicates the edition number and appears as a small medallion with the brand’s logo. Regarding performance, the 47-jewel hand-winding movement has a 55-hour power reserve and ticks at 21,600 vibrations per hour. Twin fast-rotating coaxial barrels are coupled in series with a fixed-flange mainspring.
The DC6 Wildfire on the wrist
There’s no doubt that the DC6 Wildfire has a commanding presence on the wrist. It’s not small, and the colors, when applied to the non-traditional dial features, render it an eye-catching object. Thankfully, the lightweight 45g construction gives it an otherworldly feel. Essentially, the amount of detail feels impossible with this little mass. But that’s a positive and plays into the casual vibe of this highly technical watch.
While it’s probably a small detail, I like how David Candaux managed to choose such a fitting strap design. For such a special watch, using a textured rubber strap with a Velcro closure sounds funny. Yet, it’s absolutely perfect and helps the watch sit effortlessly on the wrist. Plus, it’s beautifully made. Frankly, anything less than that would have been a letdown!
Final thoughts on the David Candaux DC6 Wildfire
We see and try on a lot of watches here at Fratello. So many are fantastic, but relatively few are truly special. I’d go so far as to say that everything I’ve seen from David Candaux falls into the latter category. The creator has invented a truly unique design language while coupling it with insanely inventive watchmaking, in a lightweight material no less. On these accounts, the DC6 Wildfire scores on all fronts. Of course, such splendor has a cost. In this case, it’s a steep CHF 248,000 to become one of the eight lucky owners of such a piece. Well, at least we can say we wore it, even if for just a short while.
