Introducing: The Seiko Astron GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronograph In Crystal Green And Crystal Pink Summer “Flavors”
Shortly after Seiko released four revamped Astron GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronographs for its 145th anniversary, the Japanese brand drops two fresh new summer “flavors.” No, they’re not pistachio and raspberry ice cream —although, come to think of it, matcha (green tea) and sakura (cherry blossom) ice cream would make more sense — but instead, Crystal Green and Crystal Pink. Nevertheless, the shades are perfectly suited for summer, and the dial’s quartz-crystal-like pattern matches the two titanium watches’ advanced quartz movements.
To celebrate 145 years of Seiko, the brand decided to revamp its Astron GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronographs. Jorg wrote about a quartet of redesigned and technically updated models very recently. But with summer approaching, the Japanese brand also thought the lineup needed two fresh colors with a sunny vibe and a cool, fresh look. Well, here they are — the Crystal Green (HAB005) and Crystal Pink (HAB006) versions of the Astron GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronograph. Both watches are limited to 1,200 pieces and cost €3,000.
The Seiko Astron GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronograph Crystal Green and Crystal Pink
Both the green- and pink-dial new models feature the revised case design introduced recently by Seiko. The 43.4 × 50 × 12.4mm case is crafted from titanium with a super-hard coating on all four sides. This case looks sharper and more refined than its predecessors. A newly designed two-piece octagonal bezel adds visual depth, combining a brushed upper surface with polished, faceted sides that catch the light. The interplay of finishes gives the watch a dynamic presence.
The dial has also received a meaningful rethink. Gone is the previous generation’s unconventional 6-9-12 sub-dial arrangement. In its place is a more harmonious 3-6-9 layout that immediately feels cleaner and easier to read. The change comes courtesy of Seiko’s new in-house caliber 5X63, replacing the outgoing 5X83.
Several familiar design cues carry over, including the angled flange with minute track, applied steel hour markers, and UTC-scale rehaut. That said, the markers have been redesigned and now feature a more generous application of LumiBrite.
Summer dials
After the four initial models, the two colorful, summer-ready creations do away with the geometric dial and introduce a wilder, freer, nature-inspired motif. The watches feature a newly developed pressed pattern inspired by the sparkling facets of quartz crystal.
The Crystal Green version emits a fresh, radiant glow inspired by green quartz crystal. The Crystal Pink does the same but in a different hue. These two colors soften the case’s angular shape. They bring out the stylish character of the otherwise very technical-looking Astron GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronograph.
Both watches come on a titanium bracelet, and inside the special nylon presentation box, you will find an additional black silicone strap. Switching between them is easy thanks to the quick-change system, which lets you remove straps and bracelets with the push of a button.
The screw-in case back reads “LIMITED EDITION,” and there’s also an engraved serial number. Sales of both the green and the pink Seiko Astron GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronograph will start in July. Do you think this travel-ready, ice-cream-colored, super-accurate quartz creation is something you would consider buying to help you through the summer? Please let me know in the comments.
