Nomos Glashütte has expanded the Ahoi Neomatik collection with two new dial colors called Sky and Sand. While these shades already existed within the larger Ahoi Date lineup, this marks their debut in the compact 36.3mm no-date version. The result is a pair of watches that feel familiar yet notably different thanks to their smaller proportions and absence of a date window.

There’s nothing else quite like the Nomos Ahoi Neomatik within the brand’s catalog. It combines Nomos’s typical clean Bauhaus-inspired design language with a surprisingly capable sports-watch spec. With a 200m water resistance rating, a screw-down crown, crown guards, and a textile strap, it is one of the toughest watches the German manufacturer produces. So, let’s have a closer look at these new versions.

The Nomos Ahoi Neomatik: an incognito sports watch

The Nomos Ahoi Neomatik has always intrigued me because it sits somewhere between a dress watch and a sports watch. Most brands emphasize one side or the other, but the Ahoi manages to balance both. At a glance, it could almost pass for a refined yet modern dress watch. Look closer, however, and the practical details reveal themselves.

The stainless steel case has a 36.3mm diameter, a 45.5mm lug-to-lug, and a 9.1mm profile. The last dimension makes the watch remarkably slim for something with a 200m depth rating. This gives the Nomos Ahoi Neomatik a versatility that few Nomos models can match. It feels equally appropriate at the office, during a weekend getaway, or on holiday by the water. If ever there were a watch deserving of the term GADA (Go Anywhere, Do Anything), I reckon it is this.

New colors for the 36.3mm Nomos Ahoi Neomatik

In essence, the only news here is the arrival of the Sky and Sand dials. Neither color is entirely new to the Ahoi family, but both take on a different character in this smaller format.

The Sky version features a pale blue dial paired with a dark blue textile strap. It feels fresh, airy, and distinctly summery. Combined with the orange seconds hand, the watch gains a playful appearance without becoming overly loud or gimmicky.

The Sand version is the Sky’s warm counterpart. Its champagne-like beige dial and light gray textile strap are, indeed, reminiscent of sand. Of the two, this is probably my favorite. The warm tone works particularly well with the small-seconds layout and gives the watch an understated charm that suits the Nomos design language.

Familiar details

Aside from the dial colors and matching straps, Nomos has left the formula untouched. That is probably a wise decision because the existing watch already works very well.

The dial layout remains unchanged, featuring Arabic numerals, elongated indexes, a recessed small-seconds register and Super-LumiNova on the hands and behind the hour markers. The orange seconds hand hints at the sportier muscle that hides behind the classy facade.

I also appreciate that Nomos resisted the temptation to add a date window. The compact proportions and symmetrical display are part of what makes this version of the Ahoi so appealing. Everything feels balanced and uncluttered. In my experience, the target audience for larger watches overlaps somewhat with the audience for date complications, which explains the choice of configurations across the 38mm and 36mm versions.

Other specs

Inside ticks Nomos’s in-house DUW 3001 automatic caliber. This 3.2mm-thick movement allows the overall watch to maintain its impressively slender profile.

As expected from Nomos, the movement includes the proprietary Swing System escapement and is adjusted in six positions. Owners can choose between an all-steel case back or one with a sapphire display, creating four total references across the two colors.

The movement offers up to 43 hours of power reserve. While that figure no longer stands out in today’s market, the caliber remains one of the more elegant and technically impressive movements available at this price point (€3,560).

Final thoughts on the Nomos Ahoi Neomatik Sky and Sand

These releases are evolutionary rather than revolutionary. Nomos has not introduced a new model, a new movement, or even entirely new colors. Instead, the brand has taken two successful dial options from the larger Ahoi Date and made them available in a smaller package.

That may sound like a modest update, but I suspect many enthusiasts will welcome it. The 36.3mm case feels perfectly suited to the clean design of the Nomos Ahoi Neomatik, and both new colors enhance its easy-going personality. I find these rather tempting as versatile summer watches.

Nomos Ahoi Neomatik 36 Sand

Of the two, the Sand model is particularly attractive to me, but the Sky variant will likely appeal to anyone seeking a brighter, more playful summer watch. You know me; I tend to go for the more subdued. Either way, these additions confirm what the Nomos Ahoi has always done best — quietly combining elegance with sporty prowess in a distinctly Nomos package.
