Ever since Alpina introduced the updated aesthetic for its Alpiner Extreme collection in 2022, we have slowly seen more introductions with the same design signature. The newest addition to the Alpiner Extreme collection is a series of exciting quartz models. The four new releases include smaller cases, a Swiss quartz movement, and new dial colors. On top of that, Alpina also updated its Seastrong Diver series with a cushion-shaped case. The new Seastrong Diver Extreme Automatic models inject the Seastrong collection with new vigor. Let’s take a closer look at the latest Alpina releases.

We’ll kick things off with the new Alpina Alpiner Extreme Quartz models. Thomas wrote about the updated case design for the Alpiner Extreme in 2022 when the first new Alpiner Extreme Regulator models were presented at Geneva Watch Days. Those were followed by the Alpiner Extreme Automatic models a few months later. In early 2023, I covered new variations of the Regulator and Automatic that also presented a new integrated bracelet. It showed the full potential of the new design on both a rubber strap and a stainless steel bracelet.

The new Alpina Alpiner Exteme Quartz models

Now Alpina presents a smaller version of the Alpiner Extreme. Quartz movements power the four models, which present new colors that make them perfectly suited for both men and women. The new models feature a 34 × 35.24mm stainless steel case that is only 8.35mm thick. The three-part case is water resistant up to 100 meters and features an antireflective sapphire crystal. If you turn the watch around, you will see the threaded stainless steel case back with Alpiner-pattern engraving. Hidden behind it is the AL-220 caliber. This Swiss quartz movement has a battery life of 45 months.

There will be four different Alpiner Extreme Quartz variations to choose from. For the first two, there’s a model with a pink dial on a stainless steel bracelet and a version with a green dial on a rubber strap. Both have a technical triangle motif on the dial and applied markers filled with white lume. As you can see, the watch features a date window at 6 o’clock. The silver-colored hour and minute hands also have a nice filling of white lume, while the counterweight of the seconds hand provides a nice red touch. As for the other two versions, one will have a brown dial, while the other’s dial will be glacier blue. Unfortunately, we don’t have pictures of those right now, but they should make for a nice quartet of Alpiner Extreme Quartz models.

Thoughts on the new Alpiner Extreme Quartz

The pink-dial version on the bracelet will be available for €1,195, and the green version on the rubber strap will be available for €995. This makes these smaller quartz models significantly more affordable than their mechanical counterparts. I think it is a clever move from Alpina to create these smaller quartz models with attractive dial colors. They are a great fit for both women and men with smaller wrists. It gives these new models a unisex appeal that will attract fans.

The Alpina Seastrong Diver Extreme Automatic

The second Alpina novelty is the Seastrong Diver Extreme Automatic. Not too long ago, Alpina announced the Seastrong Diver Extreme Automatic Arkea Limited Editions. These watches (here and here) were the first models to introduce the Alpiner Exteme’s cushion-shaped case to the Seastrong line. Until then, Alpina’s series of dive watches featured a more classical round case shape. After the two Arkea limited editions, it’s time for the first regular-production model with the updated case shape.

The Seastrong Diver Extreme Automatic has a 39 × 40.4mm stainless steel case measuring 12.65mm thick and packing a 300m depth rating. Contrasting that is a unidirectional dive bezel with a matte black ceramic insert. It features a 60-minute countdown scale with raised numerals and minute markers to create a nice texture. The black dial features the familiar triangle motif that we saw on the Alpiner Extreme dials. But the Seastrong dial features an orange minute scale on the periphery and different round, rectangular, and Alpina-logo-shaped hour markers. The skeletonized hour and minute hands are filled with white lume, and the tip of the minute hand features another nice dash of orange. Finally, the central seconds hand is slim and completes the handset nicely.

Final details and pricing for the Seastrong Diver Extreme Automatic

I love the modern dive aesthetic of this new Seastrong Diver Extreme Automatic with its combination of stainless steel, black, and orange. As you’d expect, this watch has a screw-down crown, the black knurling of which perfectly suits the colorway. The watch is also delivered on an orange rubber strap with a folding clasp and a push-button release.

Behind the steel case back, Alpina equips the new diver with its caliber AL-525. Essentially, this is a Sellita SW200-1 with a custom rotor. The automatic movement operates at a 28,800vph frequency and offers a 38-hour power reserve. It is a solid powertrain for this new diver that will be available for €1,995. Overall, I love seeing these additions to the Alpina collection as they show a fresh look that works well for the different lines. Compliments to Alpina for finding a new aesthetic that will win people over.
