Awesome video and a great comparison of the new and old Speedmaster! I personally prefer as well the applied vintage Omega logo used on the special editions, but that’s probably for many vintage Speedy lovers the same situation and we just have to get used to the new look. Same for the new type of writing on the dial – we will get used to it over time and the new type does look good, but as always if things change we are stuck with old pictures in mind for a certain period of time bevor getting used to the new look. Overall I like the new models very much and would go for the Hesalite version! The bracelet is a much appreciated improvement and gives the Speedy a fantastic & well deserved fresh vintage touch again. But the star of the release is definitely the Canopus gold version, totally in love with that appearance – but not yet with the price unfortunately ? Looking forward to more video reviews from you guys & thanks for the awesome content!

I have the sapphire sandwich with the 1863 movement. What are your thoughts on if I should keep it or upgrade to the new sapphire ref with 3861?
I wouldn’t trade it tbh, but just wait for a next cool LE that has a 3861 movement and add it to your collection 🙂
Fantastic video! I think the new Speedy Pro is a homerun. So many nice and subtle details that make a great update in the end – one of my favorite parts has to be that bracelet which looks absolutely stunning! OMEGA really upped there game here I think and I hope they are implementing bracelets with that kind of elegance (taper, clasp) on other collections as well – e.g. on the upcoming Seamaster 300 update. There are not many watches that offer what the Speedmaster “Moonwatch” has to offer: great history, classic design, fantastic movement, availability and still a very attractive price point. Not really the “value proposition” but the “Canopus” version is so damn hot ; )

Excellent presentation RJ. Clear, precise and very nice. Omega has really done a great job. Renewing these epic pieces offers his audience the pioneering spirit the precision of the masterchronometer. Some criticize Omega for supporting these modifications however … how to improve an almost perfect watch for these activities? The strategic alliance between Omega and Fratello with their ST1 and ST2 shows a brand that understands the new challenges of the new generations of Instagram, Facebook and Twitter with the adventurous vigor of the sixties. The 4th generation speedmaster is a wonderful evolution of the icon. It is beautifully done. The bracelet while a huge improvement over the previous, appears a bit rough, at least on the photos.
I have a very old vintage 1964 Omega Speedmaster Professional that belonged to my father and I inherited it after he passed away not too long ago. The original strap is long gone and currently I am wearing with a brown leather racing strap, which works, but looking for a better and thicker leather strap, as one I am using now cannot take strain of my wrist or watch.
Anyway, according to my late father, he had once told me that he had his Omega serviced many years ago and his jeweler of choice had swapped out movement for a much smaller inferior movement. But I am not sure how true this is, as his Omega is keeping fantastic time and stopwatch also works flawlessly to this day.
The bezel is not in great shape (dented and paintwork rubbing off) and plexi-glass is badly scratched as is case and case back. But despite all the cosmetic “injuries” over the years, I will not restore as all those dings and dents are a part of history.
