IFL Watches And Spinnaker Team Up For The Colorful Spence Underwater Dancers

IFL Watches does not sit still. The Dubai-based brand has been knocking out some remarkable collabs with a string of brands. The latest of these is the Spinnaker Spence Underwater Dancers. The watch celebrates World Manta Ray Day, which takes place every year on September 17th. The day celebrates manta rays and raises awareness of the threats that these mysterious ocean giants face. For the occasion, the artists at IFLW created a vibrant dial depicting an underwater scene with two manta rays gliding effortlessly through the deep waters, while rays of sunshine highlight the surface beneath. In a fun twist, the dial lights up beautifully in the dark thanks to the luminescent paint used to create the artwork. As soon as someone mentions manta rays, most people will think of their graceful movement through the water. Divers who have witnessed the ritual will never forget it. It is often described as witnessing a flight underwater rather than swimming. The graceful movement of manta rays also inspired the artwork on the dial, which raises awareness for manta ray conservation. This is necessary because the IUCN Red List currently classifies manta rays as Vulnerable due to habitat degradation, bycatch, and targeted fishing. The watch supports the conservation efforts for these remarkable animals and does so in style.

The details of the IFL Watches × Spinnaker Spence Underwater Dancers

Let’s go over the details of the IFL Watches × Spinnaker collaboration. This Underwater Dancers edition uses the Indigo Blue Spence 300 Automatic as the canvas for the hand-painted dials. The watch has a 40mm stainless steel case with an 11.5mm thickness, a 48mm lug-to-lug, and a 300m depth rating. Sitting on top, surrounding a sapphire crystal, is a unidirectional bezel with a blue aluminum insert and luminous light green markings.

The dial features the standard set of applied luminous markers and a white Spinnaker logo. Thankfully, it leaves a nice amount of room for the artwork applied with special paint that also glows in the dark. A nice touch is the custom luminous, skeletonized handset, which ensures maximum exposure of the artwork underneath without compromising readability.

The Miyota 9039

Inside the case, Spinnaker uses the Miyota 9039 caliber. This 24-jewel automatic movement operates at 28,800 vph and offers a 42-hour power reserve. As most of you will know, the Miyota 9000-series calibers are the brand’s premium offerings with a standard accuracy of -10/+30 seconds per day.

I have several watches powered by the Miyota 9000 series, and the calibers have proven very reliable. This makes them go-to choices for brands like Spinnaker that offer affordable watches. The caliber lies safely hidden behind an all-steel case back with the names of both brands engraved.

A watch for a great cause that deserves support

Of course, the hand-painted dial is the main attraction of this new IFL Watches × Spinnaker Spence Underwater Dancers. The design is a nice homage to the manta rays that live inside the world’s oceans. They are fascinating creatures that deserve all the support they get.

Spinnaker and IFL Watches have produced an initial batch of 100 pieces of this special watch, which are available to order now for €990 / US$950 / £790 each. Following the first batch, a special second batch will be offered for pre-order starting on September 21st, 2026. This second batch will be made to order, and production will proceed only if pre-orders reach a minimum of 100. For orders in the second batch, delivery is scheduled for May 2027.

The watch comes in special packaging with a sleeve featuring manta rays and a little certificate as proof of support for the great cause. Overall, I think this is a great collaborative effort between Spinnaker and IFL Watches. It has resulted in a colorful and fun version of the Spence 300 Automatic that celebrates the wonderful manta ray.
