The boat is the inspiration. Today, Tudor releases two Pelagos models in a carbon composite — the 43mm Pelagos FXD Chrono and 42mm Pelagos FXD “Alinghi Red Bull Racing Edition” models. The brand is the timing partner of Alinghi Red Bull Racing, the two-time America’s Cup-winning sailing team that is planning to win it a third time with their AC75 boat. That high-tech boat is made with heaps of carbon and titanium to keep it as light as possible. And those two materials also dominate the two new watches Tudor made to celebrate the partnership with the team that represents the Société Nautique de Genève and will compete in the Selection Series for the 37th America’s Cup in 2024 in Barcelona.

Alinghi is one of the most dynamic names in the history of the America’s Cup. The winning syndicate is now partnered with Red Bull, a strong force in sports worldwide and that resulted in the new Alinghi Red Bull Racing. It’s a name that sounds like a Formula One team. And indeed, America’s Cup sailing boats and Formula One racing cars sure have a lot in common. Both are at the pinnacle of what is technically possible. And as you would expect, a speed-sports team has a timing partner. For Alinghi Red Bull Racing, that’s Tudor. To celebrate and underline this partnership, Tudor presents these two new watches in the racing materials carbon and titanium. Let’s discover these 43mm FXD Chrono and 42mm Pelagos FXD models, shall we?

Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono

Counting time: Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono “Alinghi Red Bull Racing Edition”

We’ll start with the chronograph. The Pelagos FXD Chrono “Alinghi Red Bull Racing Edition” (M25807KN-0001) has a price of €5,070, and it’s the first-ever Pelagos with a chronograph function. The “hull” of the watch is a 43mm black carbon composite case with a matte finish and fixed strap bars. There’s also a 60-minute bidirectional bezel in titanium with a matte black carbon composite insert. When you turn it, you will hear that it’s a 120-click bezel. The titanium screw-down crown shows the Tudor shield in relief, and more titanium can be found in the back. The stainless steel case back shows an engraved Alinghi Red Bull Racing logo.

Tudor went for a black/blue/red color scheme under the flat sapphire crystal, and it shows in the matte blue dial with red accents on the chronograph seconds hand, sub-dials, and “Pelagos” text. The livery of the watch matches the team colors and also looks quite fashionable in a sporty way. That’s also because of the blue single-piece fabric strap.

Inside the 200m-water-resistant case, Tudor placed the automatic, COSC-certified, chronograph caliber MT5813. That’s a familiar movement that boasts approximately 70 hours of power reserve and features bidirectional automatic winding.

New Tudor Pelagos FXD

Time-only: Pelagos FXD “Alinghi Red Bull Racing Edition”

There’s also a non-chrono, the new Pelagos FXD “Alinghi Red Bull Racing Edition” (M25707KN-0001). In its 42mm black carbon composite case with fixed lugs, it is more or less the same as the chronograph, just without the complication. You get the same color scheme, the same 120-click bezel, and the same 200m water resistance rating. There’s a logo on the case back too. A good thing to know is that both watches come with a five-year guarantee. The non-chrono Pelagos FXD “Alinghi Red Bull Racing Edition” has a price of €3,650, and that’s lower than the titanium Marine Nationale Pelagos FXD with its bright blue dial (€4,070).
