In this video, Lex talks about his recently acquired Grand Seiko SBGX341 with a beautiful (yes) caliber 9F quartz movement. Just the other week, Lex already wrote about this watch in his love letter here.

However, we also decided to share his story in a video that you can watch either above or here. The Grand Seiko SBGX341 has not been off his wrist since, he keeps showing it off in the Fratello office ever since he got it. Grand Seiko SBGX341 Watch Karma

Love at first sight, and something that was not meant to happen at first, did happen in the end. After Gerard and RJ hosted a Grand Seiko event in Paris, where this watch was part of the collection, Lex knew it needed to be his. A beautiful 40mm case with a thickness of just 11.65mm. Inside, there’s the Grand Seiko caliber 9F61 movement. A movement that is referred to as “tough quartz”, as it is anti-magnetic up to 40000 A/m (~ 501.6 gauss). And, it doesn’t have a date (yeah!).

Really good watch Lex !
Very striking contrast between the polished hour markers and hands that look almost black, and the white dial ! Excellent candidate for ICG `s follow up on his One Watch series.

Lex – I love the passion and I love the watch – thanks for sharing. The case (design & finishing) & no-date dial are both superb – and yes, I would and have invested in high-end quartz – I’m still in my own honeymoon phase with the Citizen aq6020-53x – better known as the Calibre 0100 – the titanium bracelet, nacre dial version. Light on dial & indices (& movement finishing and accuracy) are giving me a similar horological high!

Hi Lex. I wish I could profess love to my ladyfriend this way. Loved it, and the watch too. My choice would be the SBGX347 myself, a tad small but dressy and no date.

Great video. Now I have the watch I’ve noticed a couple of things I didn’t expect- the inner bezel track is textured (you can see it in you macro shots in fact). I noticed when sticking it under a loupe. I also found the white crisp dial quite striking but can’t put my finger on why. Do you know what material it is made with by any chance? I couldn’t find this info anywhere online.

About your question: would you consider a high-end quartz watch?

Ehhhhh, I dunno. I’d definitely consider a watch that has a dial and case like the SBGX341 (particularly looks great without a date), but Spring Drive is probably the closest I’d come. I’m always conscious that one of the reasons I started collecting is that I’ve had a fascination with mechanical engineering since I was wee.

  Would have been above budget with that movement too, Jay. At least for me. I understand what you’re saying, but I really like the 9F movement because of its performance and history. The way the seconds hand strikes every second right in the middle with a sharp, clean cut is poetry in motion. But I guess we all love different kinds of “poetry”. Thanks for your comment, Jay.
