Weekend Watch Lists – Top 10 Watches Over € 50.000 Euro

It’s weekend! We decided to come up with some easy-to-digest content for the weekend, as you’ve probably been doing enough reading all week. From now on, we will publish our Weekend Watch Lists feature every weekend, to show you overviews with information about the consumer watch market. Our overviews are based on data from on-line watch consumers. Per list we will indicate the countries from which we used the data, as this will vary to keep it interesting. It will be interesting to see how much taste in watches can differ per country and continent. Data is retrieved from Chronolytics.ch, watch market research company that operates under the flag of Ebner Verlag (publishing house of magazines like WatchTime, Uhren Magazine, Chronos etc.).

Last week, we showed you the Top 10 Omega Speedmaster watches overview. We requested an overview on all Speedmaster reference numbers as well as an overview with all Speedmaster references that were produced between 1957 and 1980. The latter one to generate a Top 10 vintage Omega Speedmaster references overview.

This week, in this WWL we will show you the Top 10 watches over € 50.000,- Euro, both in Europe and the United States. Let’s start with the Top 10 brands that are most in demand in these regions, regarding watches over 50.000 Euro.

Although we see more or less the same brands in the USA and Europe, the order is definitely different and very interesting. It is also interesting to see an independent watchmaking brand like Urwerk  appearing in both overviews. One thing that surprised us is the fact that A. Lange & Söhne scores significantly higher in the USA then in Europe. This would require a bit of analysis, to see if there are as much Points-of-Sale for Lange in the USA as there are in Europe.

These lists include all watches, this means new, pre-owned and vintage. This also explains the high ranking of Rolex for instance, as you will see in the overviews below on model level.

Since the two lists above are on collection or model level, it doesn’t show the exact watch that received most demand in Q1 2015. However, we did ask Chronolytics to do some digging on the Rolex Submariner we see in both overviews. This isn’t the typical +50.000 Euro watch of course. However, as we explained above, our query included pre-owned and thus vintage watches. In the USA, the Rolex Submariner in this price range that had the highest demand was reference 5514 (COMEX). In Europe, the Rolex Submariner with the highest demand in the +50K Euro price range was reference 6538 Big Crown, followed by the 5514 as well. In Europe, we also see that the Hublot King Power made the list.

In Europe the Rolex Daytona takes the 1st spot with the modern reference 116506 (platinum anniversary Rolex Daytona with ceramic bezel, as reviewed here) in the lead, followed by some 4-digit reference number vintage models.

In the USA, it is the Patek Philippe Grand Complications Perpetual Calendar Chronograph reference 5270-G001 that takes the lead, followed by their Perpetual Calendar 5059R. Let’s not discuss the differences in taste between Europe and the United States 🙂

Please shoot us an e-mail or leave a comment with the type of overview you would like to see in the future.
