Christopher Ward and seconde/seconde/ team up for the fourth time. This time, we get the Christopher Ward C60 Pool Diver, a lighthearted take on the holiday/vacation watch. At its core, this is still the capable C60 Trident Reef, but it is covered — and I mean absolutely covered — in gags. If it’s a full basket of Easter eggs you want, look no further!

The C60 Pool Diver costs €1,175 / US$1,250 / £895 on the orange, blue, or white Aquaflex rubber strap and €1,385 / US$1,475 / £1,060 on the three-row Bader bracelet. The model isn’t limited by numbers but by orders placed within the June 11th–24th window. Deliveries will commence in mid-July, just in time for most of your poolside getaways.

The Christopher Ward C60 Pool Diver × seconde/seconde/

If this concept feels familiar, it is because Christopher Ward and seconde/seconde/ introduced the Desk Diver back in 2024. That watch celebrated the mundane by leaning into how most of us actually use our dive watches. A C65 Aquitaine Diver at heart, the watch featured a timing bezel filled with tongue-in-cheek office activities, from power naps to doomscrolling.

The 2024 Desk Diver

Today’s release pairs perfectly with the Desk Diver. When you’ve finally doomscrolled and gossiped your way through the year, you get to go on vacation. The Christopher Ward C60 Pool Diver could be the perfect companion, prescribing your recommended daily activities once more.

The day starts with a recommended dose of reading. Next, you are supposed to go sunbathing, carefully balancing the ratio of nice tan and skin damage. The next time window is reserved for relaxing, with a Martini-glass-shaped date window displaying the “recommended” max alcoholic units for the day. Next, a timeslot is reserved for flexing. After all, your vacation never happened if you haven’t flaunted it on Instagram. The day ends with time spent contemplating and reconsidering your life’s choices. The gags continue on the backside of this “decompress diver.” The etched diver wears flip-flops and a sunscreen dispenser instead of an oxygen tank. Last but not least, the case back reads: “Please, don’t drink and dive.” Puns galore!

Christopher Ward C60 Pool Diver × seconde/seconde/ specifications

As mentioned, the Christopher Ward C60 Pool Diver seconde/seconde/ is a regular C60 Trident Reef under its jolly skin. That means you get a 41mm stainless steel case with a 47.9mm lug-to-lug and an 11.5mm profile. You get the standard combination of a sapphire crystal and screw-down crown. The entire package guarantees water resistance down to 200 meters. The unique pool-activities bezel is fashioned out of ceramic. The case features a helium valve with another lacquer-filled “escape”-themed image.

Inside ticks the automatic Sellita caliber SW200-1 in Elaboré execution. It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of 38 hours. CW rates its accuracy at ±20 seconds per day. Let’s just assume that you don’t need great accuracy when you’re off the clock.

You can have your pick from summery rubber strap options in orange, white, or light blue. Alternatively, you can opt for the familiar Bader-style bracelet in steel.

Initial impressions

In the end, whether you like this watch comes down to whether you enjoy funny watches. Judging from the comments under the 2024 Desk Diver, some feel it is a nice escape from the overly serious Swiss watch world. Some enjoy the lighthearted nature and not-so-subtle jabs at pretentious watch culture. Others struggle to combine the concepts of a well-made watch and what is essentially a joke. They feel it is too gimmicky to spend serious money on.

Wherever you land on this spectrum, you have to admit that seconde/seconde/ always takes it to another level. While this isn’t my cup of tea at all, I still burst out laughing when I spotted the date window. In the end, humor is a numbers game, too. You have to keep going for the joke until one lands. And you cannot accuse Christopher Ward and seconde/seconde/ of not giving it the good old college try! Oh, and you even get an inflatable drink holder and reusable straws.
