There are watchmakers, and then there is the “Watchmaker of Watchmakers,” a heavy title that Jaeger-LeCoultre earned the hard way by supplying high-end calibers to the holy trinity of horology for decades. Since 1833, the Vallée de Joux watchmaker has produced over 1,400 calibers. While that alone is a huge flex, JLC has also dedicated itself to building collections showcasing pure mechanical restraint, such as the Master Ultra Thin line, which draws inspiration from the maison’s incredibly slim pocket watches from the early 1900s.

The Master Ultra Thin line has always excelled at stripping away the unnecessary and proving that technical restraint is an art form in itself. Now, Jaeger-LeCoultre is expanding the family with a watch for those who prefer classic, mid-size proportions. Enter the Master Ultra Thin Moon in 18K pink gold, now elegantly downsized to a beautifully balanced 36mm case.

The proportions we actually wanted

Collectors praised the previous 39mm Master Ultra Thin Moon for its warm eggshell dial, though some felt it threw its elbows out a touch too much for a dress watch. The 36mm steel Master Ultra Thin Moon that followed in 2025, however, was a much better-mannered creation. With a 9.3mm profile, it maintained the svelte look expected of the “Ultra Thin” moniker and featured a sloped bezel and curved lugs that kept the proportions feeling well managed.

Now, the new Master Ultra Thin Moon in 18K pink gold has arrived, maintaining the reduced 36mm diameter, 9.3mm thickness, and 50m water resistance. Though more luxurious, the design feels cohesive, with polished surfaces marrying beautifully with the gilt hour markers and faceted hands.

A fresh face in pink gold

The new 36mm Ultra Thin Moon watch feels more contemporary now that JLC has opted for a silvered sunray dial. The interplay between the icy silver texture and the warm gold framing prevents it from feeling too mid-century. The dial layout remains symmetrical, too. At 6 o’clock, the signature combined moonphase/pointer-date display anchors the whole affair. The moonphase aperture reveals a deep, dark blue sky dotted with pink gold stars and a brightly polished moon, surrounded by a subtle ring of black printed numerals for the date.

To ensure you can actually read the time at a glance, the applied triangular indexes are gilt to match the warm pink gold case. Meanwhile, JLC executes the dauphine hands with a split finish, with one side satin-brushed and the other mirror-polished. This dual-textured trick ensures the hands catch the light at opposite angles, creating strong contrast against the display.

The reliable caliber 925

The JLC Master Ultra Thin Moon features an exhibition case back with a sapphire crystal, providing a nice view of the in-house caliber 925. Over the years, Jaeger-LeCoultre has quietly refined this movement, increasing the power reserve to a highly practical 70 hours while keeping it ticking at a smooth 28,800 vibrations per hour. Naturally, because this is Jaeger-LeCoultre, the finishing is right on the money. It features classic Côtes de Genève, neatly beveled bridges, and traditional blued screws. Above it all sweeps an openworked 22K pink gold rotor, adding a final touch of visual beauty to the mechanics. The watch comes fitted with a black alligator leather strap featuring quick-release spring bars and an interchangeable 18K pink gold pin buckle.

With its 36mm case, this new Master Ultra Thin Moon in pink gold (along with its steel counterpart) sits far more gracefully on the wrist than its 39mm predecessor, making it an appealing option for those who prefer neo-vintage sizes. The model has officially joined the brand’s regular collection, bypassing the boutique-only or limited-run games. It’s available to order now directly through Jaeger-LeCoultre and authorized boutiques for €23,900 / US$23,100.
