Welcome to This Week in Watches for June 6, 2020 the surprising edition. There were some unexpected releases this week so let’s take a look!

Frederique Constant Classic Worldtimer

Frederique Constant Classic Worldtimer Manufacture

It’s always surprising to see a Frederique Constant in gold and I must say that this week’s Classic Worldtime Manufacture was a pleasant one. FC will make a maximum of 88 of these world timers with a polished 42mm rose gold case. The in-house FC-718 automatic toils away and allows the wearer to rotate an inner bezel via the crown. With its dark blue dial and striking details, I think this is a serious looker. And while FC might not be your first choice when you’re considering a mega spend, this one comes in at €15,895. I’d say that’s more than decent. Head to Frederique Constant for more information.

Konstantin Chaykin Mars Mk3

Konstantin Chaykin Mars Conqueror Mk3 Fighter

It’s always surprising to see what’s shakin’ at Konstantin Chaykin. The Russian watchmaker makes some seriously wild watches and the Mars Conqueror Mk3 Fighter is no exception. This titanium 55.8mm x 48mm limited edition of 8 is made for humankind’s ultimate move to the red planet. Seriously, the PR info tells us we will need to go in order to survive and that this watch will be up to the task of adapting. The watch features two vertical crowns to wind the heavily modified ETA 2893-2 automatic, set UTC time, set Mars time, and to set Earth time. Yeah, this thing is badass and with its nod to traditional aviator watches, I actually like it — a lot. You can get ready to conquer for the price of €19,710 which seems pretty approachable for such a funky concept watch. Visit the Konstantin Chaykin site for more details.

Zenith Defy ultraviolet

Zenith El Primero Defy 21 Ultraviolet

Is violet a surprising color for the newest Zenith El Primero Defy 21? Well, it was for me, but this is a pretty sweet looking piece of kit. Yes, Zenith brings us a new rendition of its titanium microblasted 44mm chronograph. This time, the movement is treated to some sort of violet coating and we see a lot of it because of the open worked dial and display back.

Zenith Defy Ultraviolet Movement

What I like here is that the sub registers are closed and that lends just the right amount of seriousness to this watch. It’s a bit big for me, but I’d rock it. Be prepared to shell out €13,100 for this one. More info can be found on the Zenith website.

Mühle-Glashütte 29er Casual

Mühle-Glashütte 29er Casual

Mühle-Glashütte makes some largish watches, but in a surprising move they’ve focused on making one of their watches slimmer. The new 29er Casual is only 9.35mm thick and a tad over 42mm in diameter. This blue-dialed stainless piece is good for 100 meters of water resistance and uses the SW300-1 automatic. M-G adjusts the movement to 6 positions and this drives accuracy between 0 and +8 seconds per day. The watch comes on a brown suede strap with quick change spring bars. Pricing comes in at €1,790. For more information, see the Mühle-Glashütte site.

Folks, that’s a wrap for this This Week in Watches, the surprising edition. I hope you enjoyed seeing some of these unforeseen pieces. Enjoy your weekend!
