Fratello Talks: The Ultimate Omega Speedmaster Debate — Which Model Defines The Legend?
Few watches have inspired as many variations, stories, and passionate debates as the Omega Speedmaster. Over nearly seven decades, it has evolved from a racing chronograph into one of the most celebrated watches in horology, with countless references that appeal to a wide range of collectors. Ask three enthusiasts to name their favorite Speedmasters, and you’re likely to get three very different answers. In this episode of Fratello Talks, Nacho is joined by RJ and Gerard to discuss the Speedmasters that have left the biggest impression on them over the years. Rather than compiling a list of the rarest or most valuable references, the conversation focuses on the models they consider icons, whether because of their historical significance, their design, or the role they have played in their collecting journeys. But first, a quick wrist check.

RJ is wearing his Omega Speedmaster Calibre 321. This modern interpretation of the legendary Speedmaster “Ed White” ref. 105.003 is powered by Omega’s faithfully recreated 321 movement.
Gerard has brought two watches to the table. The first is a 1971 Omega Speedmaster ref. 145.022 “Straight Writing” (top), featuring the distinctive engraved case back that has become highly sought after by collectors. Alongside it is a 1989 Omega Speedmaster Apollo XI 20th Anniversary ref. ST145.0022.100 (bottom), a commemorative edition celebrating two decades since the Moon landing.
Nacho is wearing his Omega Speedmaster Professional ref. 3570.50.00 from 2001, a classic Hesalite-equipped Moonwatch powered by the hand-wound caliber 1861.
Fratello Talks: The Ultimate Omega Speedmaster Debate — Which Model Defines The Legend?
The Omega Speedmaster has no shortage of iconic references, but the most meaningful ones are often the watches that resonate on a personal level rather than those commanding the highest prices. In this episode, Nacho, RJ, and Gerard share the Speedmasters that have become icons in their collections and discuss what makes each one special. They also take a look back at their favorites from throughout the chronograph’s rich history.
