Every summer, when I go to southern Europe, I make sure to take a Unimatic diver with me. I am fortunate enough to have bought a few over the past few years, and I always pick one that will be one of my two or three watches that I bring with me. The usual pick is the Modello Uno U1S-PD5, a great, sturdy professional diver that can take a serious beating. This year, it’s different. I am currently in Croatia for a couple of weeks to work and relax, and I took a proper summer watch with me. The new Unimatic Modello Uno UT1-IPP, a member of the Swimming Pool series, oozes summer.

Just last Friday, Unimatic unveiled the Swimming Pool series, which consists of six colorful watches, each limited to 99 pieces. The series contains three Modello Uno and three Modello Cinque models, all with dark blue straps. Unimatic also picked three summery dial colors that immediately change each watch’s presence. The three dial executions are Crystal Blue (ref. UT1-IPN and UT5-IPN), Infinity Mist (ref. UT1-IPP and UT5-IPP), and Acqua Laguna (ref. UT1-IPT and UT5-IPT). Crystal Blue is a vibrant shade, while Acqua Laguna is a beautiful turquoise. I had a chance to check out the Infinity Mist version of the Modello Uno, which has a crisp, ice-blue dial that complements the navy-blue details perfectly.

The details of the Unimatic Swimming Pool series

The trio of Modello Uno variants is based on the brand’s Toolwatch series. This means that all three have quartz movements and feature the brand’s signature 360° shock protection system. As a result, they are MIL-STD-810H certified, making them perfect worry-free summer watches. I will focus on the Modello Uno models for this review, as that is the watch I had a chance to try out.

But if you are interested in a smaller, stylish option, check out the trio of Modello Cinque variants, which take more after the Rolex Explorer. With their colorful dials, they could be perfect smaller summer all-arounders for both men and women, and they offer something inherently different from the Modello Uno variants. Just like those, however, the Modello Cinques have the 360° shock protection system and are MIL-STD-810H certified. This makes them just as capable as their bigger brothers.

The details of the Unimatic Modello Uno UT1-IPP

Let’s go over the specs to get a feel for this Swimming Pool diver. The Modello Uno UT1-IPP has a 41.5mm bezel and 40mm mid-case diameter, a 49mm lug-to-lug, and a 13.2mm profile. The case features a fully sandblasted finish, ensuring the bright colors bring all the brilliance in the summer sun. Since the bezel is slightly wider than the rest of the case, it makes the watch look slightly larger than it actually wears.

The bezel features a matte deep blue insert with the lume pip as the only marker. This makes the watch look nice and minimalist. Plus, since it’s meant for the swimming pool, who needs markers anyway?

All jokes aside, I love this minimalist look because it lets the dial shine. The ice-blue dial features a dark blue open minute track that matches the bezel insert. Located on the inside of the track are hand-applied Super-LumiNova indexes.

These fully luminous hour markers give the dial a nice 3D effect while glowing brightly in the dark. Furthermore, the dial features the usual text and the brand’s logo on its lower half. Lastly, the signature Unimatic handset is executed in dark blue, and all three hands are treated with Super-LumiNova.

The Seiko VH31A

Inside the case, you get the Seiko VH31A mechaquartz movement, which features a sweeping seconds hand. As a result, it looks like you are wearing a mechanical watch rather than a quartz one. On top of that, the caliber features hacking seconds, a monthly accuracy of ±15 seconds, and an approximate two-year battery life. It lies hidden behind the brilliant case back, which features a swimming-pool-inspired engraving that I adore. The case back also has each watch’s LE number engraved in the center.

Completing the ensemble is a dark blue 22mm two-piece TPU quick-release strap with signed sandblasted hardware. I love the look of 22mm straps on the Modello Uno because they create a nice visual balance. On top of that, the sturdy straps ensure the watch sits perfectly on your wrist. Thanks to the quick-release system, it is easy to switch up the look with a nice NATO or rubber strap. I have to admit, though, that I haven’t been tempted yet. The provided strap suits the look perfectly and feels nice and sturdy, so there’s been no need to switch things up so far.

Wearing the Unimatic Modello Uno UT1-IPP

When Unimatic contacted me to ask which of the three dial variations I wanted to try out for this hands-on review, I immediately gravitated towards the icy-blue dial of the Infinity Mist model. The color nicely complements the darker blue of the bezel and strap, and that seemed to be the one to go for. Overall, it has proven to be a great option with proper summer vibes, and it’s been a joy to wear these past few days.

But I have to say that the other two dial options would have been slightly better in terms of contrast with the luminous indexes. While it doesn’t necessarily affect reading the time, the contrast between the markers and the ice-blue backdrop is minimal.

I have to admit that I love oversized indexes, so having those might have also done it for me. They wouldn’t have properly solved the lack of contrast though, obviously. As I said, it is not necessarily a practical issue but more an aesthetic detail that stood out for me.

Final thoughts on the Unimatic Modello Uno UT1-IPP

Then again, it doesn’t impact the fun of wearing this Swimming Pool diver. Overall, the Unimatic UT1-IPP offers the sturdy build quality that we know from Unimatic. Plus, with the special shock-resistant construction, it can withstand anything thrown at it during your summer adventures. I also love the grippy feel of both the bezel and the 8mm crown. They make it a joy to interact with the watch. But, of course, if you don’t want to, you don’t have to. Once you have set the time, you are good to go and can spend your days by the pool without any worries.

That is exactly what many people want from a summer watch, so this limited-edition series is a great option for watch fans looking for an affordable option in 2026. The three Modello Uno variants, including this UT1-IPP, are available on the official Unimatic website for €650.

If you prefer the smaller Modello Cinque Swimming Pool options, you can get one of those for €610. As mentioned, all six references are limited to 99 pieces, and after wearing the Modello Uno UT1-IPP, I do not doubt they’ll sell quickly. While I haven’t spent much time at the pool over the past few days, I can say the Modello Uno UT1-IPP also feels right at home on the beach. There is not much more I could ask for from a great summer watch.
