Just like that, the 2022 edition of the Fratello Summer Splash has come to an end. But don’t be sad, my dear reader. There’s no need to fret! While the Summer Splash may be over, the summer has only just begun! We hope that this month-long quest has inspired you to keep things colorful this summer. I say this despite the fact that our finalists were a little bit on the conservative side. Thankfully, our lovely Fratelli, despite their tendency to go for blue, also picked a bright orange wild card in the form of the Seiko 5 Sports GMT (SSK005). A worthy contender, but one that sadly didn’t manage to measure up to our two finalists. So, without giving any more away, let’s jump into a recap of the contest and announce our winners!

This year’s Summer Splash took a slightly different approach than the 2021 edition. We cut the number of contestants and watches down to just eight. Those eight contestants were placed in a bracket, beginning the contest in the equivalent of a quarter-final round. The eight watches chosen were the following: Doxa SUB 300 Divingstar, Autodromo Group B Aqua, Tudor Pelagos FXD, Hublot Integral Ceramic Sky Blue, Oris Pro Pilot X “Salmon”, Serica 5303-3, NOMOS Club Campus Future Orange, and the Oris Aquis Great Barrier Reef III. An undeniably strong lineup with some true heavy hitters made for a great competition with more than one close call. And though our winner is not the most colorful watch by far, it comes from one of the watch community’s favorite brands.

The Summer Splash 2022 Winner: Tudor Pelagos FXD

As you all know, we’re here to celebrate the victory of the Tudor Pelagos FXD and its champion, our very own Jorg Weppelink! And though it was my Serica 5303-3 that was defeated in the final, there are absolutely no hard feelings. In fact, looking at the top four finalists, including the NOMOS Club 36 in Future Orange and the stunning Seiko 5 Sports GMT in an equally bright tone of orange, we find a good balance between bright and understated watches. Should it come as a surprise that most people will play it safe and go for something more wearable? Probably not. But it’s a good chance to take that on board, and once you do find yourself the proud owner of a collection with a number of conservative heavy hitters, remember that you can never go wrong in adding a bit of color.

That said, it’s quite hard to claim that the Tudor Pelagos FXD isn’t a perfect summer watch. What more could you possibly want than what the Tudor has to offer? I won’t take any more of your time by repeating everything that Jorg already said about it. In short, though, it’s an incredibly capable, function-forward, lightweight piece of watchmaking design. And not only that, but it also comes from the same house that some of the world’s best tool watches call their own; there’s no Shield without the Crown. Congratulations, then, to the Tudor Pelagos FXD and to Jorg on taking this year’s Summer Splash crown! But who will be taking the colorful G-Shocks home? Let’s take a look at our Summer Splash giveaway winners.

Summer Splash community winners

Before the winners are called out (I know… I know… what a tease) let’s quickly recap the three ways that you had of entering and potentially winning one of the most colorful watches out there. I’m talking, of course, about the Casio G-Shock DW-5610DN-9ER. Officially banned from the competition on color-doping charges, there’s little to no doubt this watch would have trampled over the competition. This, however, is precisely why we wanted to offer not one, but three of these bold watches to you, our dear Fratelli. Now, the first way of winning was to submit your suggestions for the Summer Splash wild card in the opening article. We received close to 100 different suggestions. In the end, the winner of the G-Shock will be the first person who suggested the most popular wild-card option.

The second way of winning was to take part in the discussions and comment on all of the Summer Splash rounds. One watch will be awarded to our most engaged Fratello.

And the third and final way of taking a G-Shock home was to submit your most colorful watch shots on Instagram using the hashtag #FratelloSummerSplash. With plenty of great submissions, it was hard to pick a winner, but after much deliberation, we did find one very creative individual who had the edge.

So, now is the moment you’ve all been waiting for. Here are your Summer Splash 2022 winners!

  • The Wild-Card visionary: Fabio
  • The verbose and ever-engaging: LeFred
  • And the persistent color-capturing: @babywildanimal

We will be reaching out to you guys soon to get your shipping details, and before you know it, you’ll be rocking your new summer-ready watches! We can’t wait to see your wrist shots on our Instagram feed.

Final thoughts

Wrapping things up, we want to thank everyone who took part in this year’s Summer Splash. Whether by commenting and joining the discussion in each article or by suggesting your favorite wild-card pick, without you all contributing and sharing your thoughts, these kinds of contests wouldn’t be half as fun. We hope that you also enjoyed reading and following along with the competition as much as we did writing for it. Once again, congratulations to the winners! And as always, stay tuned, as this will certainly not be our last competition/giveaway of the year!

Remember, though the Summer Splash is indeed over, the summer has only just begun. So get out there, enjoy the warm weather, go on adventures, and never forget to bring your favorite watch along for the ride.
